Question Reseting the ECU?

Hi all I keep hearing about reseting the ECU on scoobys would that be an advantage on my WR1 as I've heard that the car learns how you drive and adjusts itself accordingly so being as I've only just run her in at no more than 4000rpm then it must think I must have previously been a Skoda driver?

Would I benefit from starting afresh with the ECU and if so how do you reset it also does it have a learning curve over a time say 2 days so I'd have to drive it hard for that time or is it a continual thing?

Thanks in advance...

The later Impreza's have a fast learning ECU and will advance it in near real time to match fuel, use / abuse etc. so not a lot of benefit in your doing a deliberate ECU Reset I think.
I stand to be corrected though... since I haven't got a WR1 ! ;(

As Vulnax999 says your ECU is constantly trying to advance ingnition to the point of knock and then backing off, it does all this in real time so you wouldn't see any benefit in a reset ... and i am not sure you can do a reset on post MY00 cars like you can on the classics with the wires under the dash thing, maybe disconnectiing the battery still works though.

STILee, I ran my WR1 in pretty much in accordance with the guidelines although did get upto 6000rpm a few times on overtaking manouvers and I'm more than happy with mine.

We did have a guy at the WR1 rolling road day (check out on www.wr1oc.co.uk) who had done 2000 miles keeping it strictly below 4000rpm and Mike Wood did reset his ECU and gave him some 'instruction' how to drive it home
