FAO the 6 speeders
I think i am gonna stick a 6 speed in mine to to the standard box not taking the power and torque. Do you have to put a new/modify the transmission tunnel to get it to fit?
Also a laugh for you. A P1/ RA box is stronger than a 6 speed and can take alot more power and torque. And thats from a subaru dealer mechanic

LOL at the last bit
The 6 Speed box was designed to take in excess of 450bhp and 450lbs of torque, considerably more than a type RA and P1 gearbox
I would speak to David at API, i know he has the 6 speed boxes in, mostly JDM ones though, but nothing wrong with that, they still go to 170mph

They fit no problem, no modifications needed to body work at all. You even use the gearbox cradle from the 5 speed to support the the 6 speed, just make sure you get a group n gearbox mount, as the 5 speed one cant take the extra weight IMO, and consequently rattles like hell on the tunnel.
If you get a JDM box, you will need a 3.9 rear diff (mainly from JDM cars), if you get a UK 6 speed you need a 3.54 rear diff which is standard on most uk classics.
with regard to brads comment above, the power my car had made it silly for the JDM gearbox to be efficient in my car with a RPM limit of 7000. It would get to the redline in 6th at about 1 mile from a standing start, that equates to 160 in round figures.
What this means, is high rpm under cruising, didnt suit me either due to the mileage i did in it.
1st to 4th are the same on JDM and UK, its only 5th and 6th that are different.
Speeds at 7000rpm, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th
JDM 36 55 74 97 123 155
UK 36 56 74 97 135 173

The JDM box has a higher 6th than the 5 speed 4 door STi, now with a rpm limit of 8000 (JDM GC8) thats clearly different to a UK but dependant on what car you put it in its actually an ideal solution for some. personally having driven a later car with this box as std fit (my Sti9) and a 8k limit I find it superior in ratio to the UK version, certainly thats what will/is going back into the STi5 in a couple of weeks.
However if you are rpm limited then I see your logic.

One other factor is wheel / tyre size!

Your different though David.
As for abuse the 6 speeders can take. Do you think the 5 speed could take being launched from a standing start at 7000+ rpm with probably somewhere in the region of 400bhp and 400ftlb?

Just to clarify. I've posted elsewhere, but again,
A 'set' from me comprises box, linkage, and propshaft and comes at £1800 plus VAT for the standard JDM version and we charge £2500 plus VAT for the JDM with auto dccd ; 'set'.
You'll need a 3.9 rear diff to go with it if fitting to a GC8 European car. Depending upon supply and demand, we buy them locally in the UK, the price varies as to whom we buy them from. And the cost of the LSD, and fitting it of course. Mostly all cars will need a rear diff to go with the deal as the likelihood of your car already being 3.9 rear diff is quite low. Early WRX only if I recall.

PS 911; of course you got a demon deal !!

Thanks David (@ API ). I'll drop you a PM in the next couple of days, need to find a buyer for my non-DCCD JDM I got from you first. Do you have 3.9 rear diffs in stock (with or without plated this time!)? Speak to you soon.
Cheers, Richard

I have plated R180's from GDB cars in stock, but that'll be hassle for you, and l have viscous R160's from GC8 and suchlike. Why change the one you have ?
I have a good demand for 6 speed so there is a possibility that we might be able to deal on a trade in basis. Except that you may well get a better price on here than I will allow. [commerciality, ugh what a way to go on ! ]
I've been out all day Wednesday and l have a feeling that the last dccd has been sold today. l'll know first thing Thursday. 6 sold in a week !! No B/S.
Looks like l'll have to get APi Japan to work the midnight oil a bit.

No worries David, thanks - when I need it, I can wait. And for sure, I can get more here in CH than you're selling them for....before factoring in the shipping costs
Hence the reason for needing another 3.9 rear diff CW&P - I'll sell my JDM to someone else. I'll be in touch via PM in a week or so.
Thanks, Richard
