Question Flat Spot

Know someone who has bought a MY00, it has an intermittent
flat spot around 4000rpm
Any Ideas what could be causing it? Feels like car isn't getting full boost
when it happens.
Could it be the boost solenoid?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi there, has the car always had it?

I am sure i have read several threads to do with flats spots on MY00's and the dealers state "They all do that" and it is a charactristic of the chip.

This may not be the case with your friends but worth a search on 'ere.

No its not always there.
Most of the time it pulls strongly through the whole rev range,
then sometimes it pulls strongly until about 4000 and then really
'flats' as if the boost is fading. No boost gauge so we can't tell
if the boost falls off, just feels like it is.

Is the standard AE802 ECU being used? If so look for an AE800 or AE802 to replace it (about £100 from the For Sale section)

The MY00 map runs a lot richer at top end which I have been led to believe was due to emissions changes required in 2000.

Apart from that, try fitting a boost gauge maybe?

We managed to borrow a PPP ecu and tried that, and the flat spot
was still there (again intermitently)so that means it must be a sensor/actuator/coil/boost solenoid etc£
