Default Exhaust Help Please for a Blobeye

Hi,

Hope you can help. I'm new to Subaru ownership and have recently aquired a 2003 Subaru Impreza WRX.

I can't stretch to PPP prices so I thought of an Ecutcek/Tek3 remap and some exhaust changes (not that bothered about warranty).

My question is: What makes up the exhaust? and where are the cats located?

My guess is that the exhaust is made up of manifold, up-pipe,downpipe, centre section and back box. Is this correct?

I am looking at changing the downpipe, centre and back box.

Would this be OK? Can I change the up-pipe as well?

With an Ecutec/tek3 could i get over the 265bhp that the PPP claims to output?

Another question sorry (After doing a search): If I replaced the exhaust components and removed cats etc would I get the Check Engine Light coming on all the time?

Would I need a check engine light fix?

Thanks for your help in advance

WRX, headers, up-pipe, turbo, downpipe, centre and rearbox.

CAT in up-pipe
CAT in downpipe

You will get CEL but the TEK remap can get rid of this.

Good idea to change up-pipe as well to get rid of the CAT pre-turbo. If your going the TEK 3 route get yourself some induction mods as well to make the most of the TEK 3 remap. No reason you shouldnt better the PPP figure.

As above, sums it all up really
My MY03 WRX has most of the above mods, and it is well worth it, but as you say you cannot afford to go the PPP route, you wont be buying much of these mods.
Exhaust alone will cost you 500 or so, with back boxes being 300, and then decat up and down pipes too. TEK 3 will set you back 650 (could be more i cannae remember) unless you get a group buy then it will be cheaper. So already you are getting on for the PPP price. Imho, i dont think you can sort of cheaply do this to our cars, as really there is enough that needs doing to make it expensive anyway. (just my thoughts on it)

There's plenty of 2nd hand exhaust parts on here, breakers or Ebay:

PPP rear exhausts £150
Centre decat pipes £75
d/pipe £130
UK STi upipe (they aren't catted) £50

The tek will be IRO £650 though.
So that'll be more or less a decat "PPP" for £1200.

The official PPP is £1600, but includes fitting and warranty remember - so not that much difference in price overall.

Thanks very much for your help there fellas.

It's helped a lot.

Ok, it look's like I will get the whole lot (Depending on price), and like Butty said I can get most things 2nd hand.

Nice one on the STI up pipe, I did not know this, I shall keep an eye out for one for sale.

Ok, so I will be paying full price on a Ecuek remap.
But If I chose to upgrade anything else on the car, the ecutek will allow me to do this, with anthoer remap of course. Plus with this lot as a starting point, as Conrad said I may better the PPP figures anyway.

I think I'm cprrect in saying that the PPP will not adjust to any future mods.

Thanks guys.

Interesting thread for me for the future (just had my 1k miles service in the MY04). Does a full decat car still pass the MOT? If not can a TEK3 re-map be done to get it through? What about with just a sti decat up-pipe and a hi-flow/sports cat in the system? I'll be looking to mod the car in the future but won't want a system I have to change each year at MOT time.
