Default WRX engine BHP

I think this might open a big can of worms here but i was wondering if anyone knew what is a safe limit of bhp & torque for a new age wrx engine is (not STi) with standard internals, i know this is a very vague question but hope some of you lot can help.

Granby,

I am running 368bhp with 331ft/lb torque. Been over 350bhp for over 20k miles.

So far, so good (frantically looking for some wood to touch)

Car is a MY01 WRX

Cheers

Martin

RB5Scott was running a little over 380bhp on his UK300 (on two separate rolling roads). He then changed the headers to get more still, and had another re-map, which he thinks could have taken it past 400bhp, but IIRC it knackered a piston on the way to Power Engineering to prove it. (Still made 340 odd even with a hole in the piston).

I'll leave him to comment on how many other bits he's broken since

There are a number of classic WRX's/UK's that have made over 400 bhp on std internals and are still running strong, the 01 onwards should be no different, if anything they have a better base engine to start from than the early cars.

Without wishing to totally hijack this thread, what sort of figures can a UK MY04 STi engine handle whilst still being used as an everyday car?

400 will be no problem with good boost from 3000 rpm, some are running them around 460 although the bigger turbo used at this level will result in a bit more lag.

Thanks Andy. I was thinking that the WR1 could do with a little more power.

So Andy what kind of mods would that require to get a STi 04 UK to 400bhp.
And approx how much would it cost.
Only thinking!

Many ways to skin this cat My way to 400 on a Sti 01 onwards would be
Tubular headers. £400
Heat wrap headers. £100
Cold air intake. £200
Silicone intake pipe. £200
Pump and adj reg. £200
TD05/06-20G. £900
3" decat system. £400
EcuTek custom map. £600

Prices are approx, you will find the parts dearer/cheaper depending where you shop
