should gearbox oil be drained during clutch change
is the gearbox oil drained... i ask this as when i bought my car it had just had a new clutch and i notice now the gearbox is notchy (always has been but thought it was a 'quirk') anyway i checked gearbox oil tonight and found it to be empty!!! wheres it gone?? forgot refil and clutch change?? bad leak ? [img]images/icons/icon9.gif[/img] my first concern is that it has to be drained during clutch change... please tell me it has to, that way i can be pretty sure its not a leak.. or hopeful anyway!

IMHO yes. If you are removing the box away from the car in a home garage without ramps etc and the tail of the box slants down, then the oil will come out of the tail shaft as there is no propshaft in it to 'plug' the hole.
If it is empty then i think they forgot to fill after the clutch job.............ouch!
Easy to gorget with everything else to do during a clutch change.
