Bugeye CEL error code P0546
Hi
CEL came on today cruising down the motorway after abou 2 miles at 80MPH
SECS gives error code P0546 which is "Exhaust gas temperature sensor circuit malfunction (high input)"
I just wondered if any one else has had this code and is it serious ??
Cheers
Midlife.....
MY02 bugeye with TD05 / mods etc. running about 300BHP

Your sensor may have given up the ghost(if you dont know allready, its in the up pipe).
Are you still getting EGT temps on the SECS?
If youre not getting any readings then i would say the sensor is shot.If you are getting normal readings, then it could be worth looking into why you may possably have EGT's too high(probably not the case though). If the readings look abnormal, then its also probably on its way out.
Do a search, but i think that its a 2.2ohm resistor put into the EGT plug that can bypass the CEL to get you by if you dont want to get a new sensor just yet.
Gary.

Hi Gary
Thanks for the quick reply
I'm on version 7 of the software on my SECS which has always given "no data" when trying to get an EGT reading. I think that the code for too high EGT's is something like P1442 so it might be the EGT sensor itself dying.
I'm having a new up-pipe fitted on March 5th and change the sensor then, as the rest of the readings are OK and the car is running fine I'll get the CEL cleared and see what happens.
Thanks
Shaun

Midlife its your egt sensor in your uppipe I will bring a resistor to the sportsmans on wednesday which will bypass the error code so it doesn't show up on your dash I would also advise you to later remove the sensor and put a bung in its place I will bring one with me for you as well. The reason I say remove the sensor is because if you remember a while back one failed on me and the tip broke off luck has it it didnt get pushed up into the turbo, going by other posts it seems to be a common thing with the bugeyes

Hi Gussy
Thanks for the help ......... Does this mean you have ditched your EGT sensor completely ??
As you know I'm getting a new up-pipe fitted at the beginning of March, do I simply put the bung onto the new up-pipe rather than a install a new EGT. ???
Cheers

Shaun,
Yes I have ditched my egt sensor and yes all you need is the bung and the resistor. When andy f remapped my car last week one of the first questions he asked was where was my egt sensor it wasnt showing up on his lap top.I have had the fix on my car for the last 12 months with no problems.
