Question Replacement Headers (Gruppe S)

I was looking at some Gruppe S headers today for my MY98 Turbo (full decat). Does anyone know if these are a good next step for getting some more power and torque from the car? What kind of benefits should I see? Has anyone fitted aftermarket headers? How easy are they to have fitted?

Thanks for any help

Mike

Does anything else need changing so they fit?

What modifications do you already have and what are your power/torque aims?

I have a full decat exhaust system and filter so far performance mods wise. Im just looking for a good chunky power increase without spending more than £500. 260bhp would be nice.

I'd say 260bhp could be achieved with full decat, filter and an increase in boost... maybe 1.2bar via a dawes or similar (£35). Keep an eye on knock and AFR and away you go. No need for headers IMHO unless you want over 320-350bhp.

What kind of performance benfits would I see from putting on the Gruppe S headers? Didnt want to mess with boost unless I was going for a PowerFC which I cant afford.

Personally i wouldn't fit a set of headers to your standard turbo (TD04) full stop.... far better ways to spend the money. Or save for that Power FC.

Yep, even if you can get headers for £350.... there are things on your car that need addressing way way before headers. ECU, turbo, injectors, intercooler etc etc.

Maybe get your OEM headers ported?

My bro-in-law actually has a MY97, with decat, filter and dawes it made 270ish bhp at well lane. My JDM WRX made slightly more than this (peaking at 290bhp) with similar mods but a rempped ecu. There just is no need for headers at this level of tune.

if you fit a set of headers realistically you will need to have a remap and there goes your £500 budget

Can you suggest anyone that can set the dawes up properly so that it gives me a decent but SAFE increase in power?

Anyone got anywhere they can recommend that I can trust to set up my car for more power with a £500 budget?

Where are you based? There are loads of people of here that have run them ovre teh years, 1.1bar or even 1.2bar sound be fine (run on SUL).

Do you have a knocklink and AFR gauge... if not you really need these for any sort of tuning. Boost gauge also (obviously).

if you add too much without proper mapping you are just going to be another "need a new engine " statistic i have 1 or 2 mods on the car and i have had my car properly mapped after each added item my car runs a nice boost and i have no problems.your money would be better spent saiving towards mapping which would show safer and better results
