Default York Dragway - Gutted

As if I needed confirmation that my 93WRX isn't producing full power, did 6 runs at York dragway. Managed to beat a Fiesta, but got my humiliated (thanks to the commentator for adding to it!) by a Corsa, and a Calibra Turbo.
Despite fairly good launches, and ripping through the gears with little mercy, my best time was 15.55 @85.
I was neck and neck with the Calibra off the line, but once I was in forth, he left me for dead.
Managed 16.5 @83 in a 16 year old Golf last year...

Anyone got any idea what bhp this would suggest?

I had the car sideways yesterday, gave me a bit of a fright. The roads were damp, not wet but there was a little oil on the surface and I'd recently driven over a potato.

Anyone got any idea what type of tyres this would suggest?

The car is capable of running much faster than that if its running well. Dont have the figures for your car in particular but for example - a std UK turbo is capable of doing high 13s@100mph. On a UK turbo, with a decat and map (260ish bhp), I ran 13.4@100mph with a slipping clutch.

If you are confident that it wasnt driver error (must be big errors to effect the times by that much ie engaging wrong gears etc), then have the car health checked as it doesnt sound right.

There was a scoob running 15secs yesterday and the owner was happy with it. When asked him why he was happy he replied "beacuse the car is shagged".

Get it looked at.

Only a filter and back box as far as I know. Mid section is leaking which won't help, but I wouldn't think that would loose so much boost.

Pretty warm yesterday - about 20c I think.
Mind you, an Audi coupe (or a shell stuck on a dragster I suspect) ran 162mph, and a bike clocked 135 over 1/8th mile. Don't know how you hang on at thay rate!

Will replace exhaust then go for a RR session I think.
Didn't wreck the engine / clutch anyway, so pretty pleased

I got a 14.42 on a hot day at Shakespeare raceway on my 2nd ever run, quite happy as its a heavy bugeye, and im new to the 1/4 mile too, so launching practice will surely improve my times. My reactions are approx 0.6 secs, which is poor too I know, and also, as my battery is shagged, I had to leave it running in the queues to get on the strip, so extra hot

btw, my first run was she-ite, bunny hopped it and got a 15.4!!!!!!!!!! oops!!

Is your wastegate stuck open (ie no boost) as with that time/speed combination, I'd be asking if you even have a turbo car

Best I have got in my 94 WRX was a 13.44 on the Banzai magzine Subaru group test, but I have got full leather, lots of sound proofing and a heavy ICE system. My 94 WRX is a 260 bhp version, 93 WRX is most likely a 240 bhp version. A good technique can save alot of time on the quarter mile, but it's easy to lose time.

It's worth taking the car to a reputable Subaru specialist just to check if everything is OK though.

It does boost, but only to about 0.6bar. Seems pretty good in low gears / revs, but at 6k it just stops pulling, and in 4th pretty much any TDi would embarras it.
Got some new plugs to fit when I figure out how...

Fun, init?"

Sounds like its only running half(ish) the boost it should be.

Reset the ecu as it may be in limp mode.

Done that, and cleaned out the boost controller. Might try take the I/C out an check for leaks in hoses. Hoping the turbo isn't on it's way out, but it is an ageing car!

Mind you, I have a print out saying I did the day's quickest run - 6.9s, despite a 10s reaction time. Apparenlty this was propably caused by spiders. Makes you wonder how many unaccurate times are recorded!
