Exhaust Advice
Can anybody help???
I am thinking about buying a 2nd hand P1 Prodrive exhaust system from a 2001 P1.
I have two questions,
1) Will it fit onto my MY2000 UK Turbo without any messing about?
2) Will it make any difference to performance? My insurance company want to add something equivelent to the 3rd world debt to my premium if it increases the BHP!! I know aftermarket exhaust manufacturers quote figures of 5 - 20 extra BHP, but do they really make a difference?
Thankyou in anticipation.

just fitted a p1 rear silencer to my my00 classic, straight forward fitment to replace the standard twin exit pipe that was already fitted........ hardly any dfference in noise though, maybe slightly a bit better but still muted so a bit disapointed in that, but also fitted a intercooler tilt kit and splitter at the same time and the car drives a lot better, pick up is faster, less lag it seems so i cant say if the silencer on its own made any difference to the car....... i think, but i stand to be corrected that there were two different exhausts for the p1....one like i have that is stamped sti and one that is actually stamped p1 on the tailpipe......from the little ive read over on the p1 forum it would seem the p1 stamped item does give a much better exhaust note due to less restriction,so maybe that would give better power too?
looks a hell of a lot better anyway though

The original (or o/e) P1 backbox (stamped STi) had a crimped neck (where the tailpipe itself exits the collector box). On the upgraded bb (stamped with ??) the tailpipe wasn't crimped so probably made a bit more noise and a bit more power. As someone's mentioned earlier I doubt if the noise levels increase that much with either, unfortunately, but they sure look a damn sight better.

The P1 stamped BB was (I think) the same as this BB....
....which was is a Prodrive one from a PPP kit.
The BB above is shown on my old MY99 with a Scoobysport de-CAT centre. Much better/louder noise than the standard 'Pea Shooter' !
The BB loaded about £40 on my insurance and got the Turbo spooling a little earlier, but I changed the BB mainly for looks and noise. Taking out the centre CAT changed the sound again and did give a bit more performance up at speed.

you wont get much performance from the backbox, but the P1 stamped stainless jobbie sounds a lot better. you say the whole system, the P1 centre has no cat, just a resonator, so you may gain a few donkeys from this.
on the P1, the backbox was an optional extra, so IIRC you did not have to tell your insurance. dont know if it was an option on the MY2000 uk car though, but if it is i would assume you are in the same boat.
