I think it could be over-kill. I can't imagine you need a 3.5" bore unless your running seriously huge power. I know that a 2.5" bore is fine for well over 300bhp! Not trying to put you off it as I honestly know nothing about the system, just that running too bigger bore can have negative effects on torque etc due to lack of back pressure.
Any-one able to clarify the benefits and drawbacks of running such a big bore?

as above unless your after massive power you could get something just as good for half the cost of the aps, even a good 3inch system should be around £500

Hi,
I have one fitted to my car, Went from full Scoobysport system, A bit of power increase but not an incredible amount. Looks nice, sounds nice if a touch on the loud side, can cause ground clearance problems but once you go over a few speed bumps it adds it's own flat spots :-)
Very good build quality, but doesn't match any parts of standard system.

Can I fit and run with it on without a remap or should I leave it in the box until I can afford the remap?
Oh, I have bought it and it arrived today, looks the dogs !

I think you can get away without a remap as you will still have the up-pipe cat and I believe one other cat located in the system. It’s only really if you have a full-decat that a remap becomes essential, although many on here run their cars without a remap even after a full decat with no problems!
Let us know what you think of it once it is on!
Cheers

yes there is, there is 3 cats in your system.
The APS system is decat from turbo back......the cat in the uppipe remains, which isnt a good idea to leave.

Please tell me more. Firstly, the cat in the up pipe, various 'experts' have told me a wrx MY05 does not have one in the up-pipe! If it has should I remove? Why would it be bad to leave in and could it pass an emission test with it?
Would the TD04 turbo cause problems with this exhaust. I want to mod the car over time and would like to fit the exhaust with out any other major investments right now.
Advice greatly appreciated

The TD04 turbo is a small unit which needs it's back pressure. With this huge bore exhaust you have got yourself, it is going to spin much more freely than intended - hence the overboost.
These are the options as I see them for the time being. Firstly get yourself a boost guage so you know whats going on and drive it accordingly, or don't fit the exhaust until you can afford the remap to sort it all out. I am not sure if I would worry too much about the up-pipe cat in the short-term, but you should probably look into this further. Also definately don't mod the air-intake until you are ready for the remap - if you do then I would be worried about it running lean (detonation and potential for a costly engine rebuild).
Let me know if you want some more info and I am sure others will share their view point on this.

id be interesting to see which "experts" have told you that.....
but basically the reasons are as stated above....the exhaust bore is simple too large for the turbo....you want this exhaust for applications 450bhp and above, long after your engines had enough anyway!!

Thanks for the advice, I would appreciate further comments from others.
I shall look into a the boost guage as I am keen to get the exhaust on but will have to wait for the emap.
Do you know if the up-pipe cat will get the car through an emissions test?

it might do but the problem youve got it it breaking down due to the rest fo the decat....if bits of the cat fly off and through the turbo then you can say bye bye to that.
If you are getting this exhaust then get a turbo that will at least do it justice too, otherwise its just a waste, also, why the 3.5" anyway? why not the APS 3" system? The fastest and most powerful imprezas generally only use up to 3" systems.....so use that as a yardstick for what you actually need.

I have a 3.5” system on my car along with APS tmic, APS cold air, APS bov and a Autronic ecu with a HKS EVC5 boost controller on a TD04.
At the moment it is running 180BHP 310 Torque. It is true that you get over boost but the Autronic ecu and the EVC dose keep it under control if set up correctly.
I am more than happy with the set up and it makes for one quick car on country back roads. The spool up off the turbo is quick very quick. The 3.5” system dose make a difference as I have had my car on the PPP system, Magnex system ,scoobysport system & then on the mixture off the magnex and scoobysport. None off the system made the torque the APS 3.5” did.
So my vote APS 3.5”

Thanks for the advice, I think you have answered my questions, I should leave it in the box for now, doh!!!!!!
I need to have a remap at the same time as the exhaust is fitted, possibly require a boost controller? I do not know what this is but shall investigate.
I need a new up-pipe
Oh! and I should not have bought it in the first place? Anyone want a swap for something more appropriate?

No problem, just more research and advice required I think, before I can put it on.
Oh! and probably more money to buy suitable bits to fit with the system.
Might hang it on the garage wall as a piece of art.
