Question DIY Cambelt change

OK so who's done this and is it a complete pain or what ?

I've changed the clutch myself, so I'm not a complete learner, but with something as critical as the timing belt, I need a bit of reassurance before starting.

I presume you have to take the radiator out and so it'll be a good time to change the coolant and also it would seem very sensible to change the oil pump too.

I've got a 97 UK Turbo with 97K miles, cam belt due at 105K as previous change was early.

Any advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks

There is no need to remove the radiator, but it does make it much easier when lining up the the new belt and making sure all the pulley markings are aligned.

If you've done a cambelt on any other car (especially twin cams), you should find it a breeze.

All that's really needed, like most cars is a big, long breaker bar, and a good handbrake to remove the crank pulley

Tensioner and idlers will probably need replaceing unless they've previously been done.

Biggest issue is if the timing marks of your pulleys are off. Mine actually has the marks half a tooth off where it should be on the one pulley, which caused some head scratching. I've never seen another scoob like it (or another car at that) , but when realised it's easy enough to work out.

dead easy, although i did mine with no rad/bumper, just be careful of the right hand side cams spinning round and clashing as it's a fine balancing act to get them in the right position

the marks on mine were a mark out too

Thanks guys. I'll give it a go now.
