Default Nobbers guide to 4wd?

Was advised to post this here (oops!) :

Hi, did a FAQ and Search, nothing came up that I was looking for (I'm crap at searching though).

On the classic shape Impreza, is the 4wd controled by computers, or by clever diffs? Also, would this have changed with the evolution of the Impreza?

Cheers!

Hello again,

The short answer is clever diffs. What model classic is it?

Not model specific- I'd be interested to hear about all types and variations.

Ok, well that's going to take a fair bit of searching on your part unless somebody has been kind enough to put together a "guide to Impreza Diffs 92-05". I've not spotted one yet.

A few places to start.

http://www.sidc.co.uk/faq.htm

http://www.catherineandken.co.uk/sti/trans.html

and of course

http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/search.php?searchid=608631

to give you an idea of the complexities and mis-information have a look at one of my threads

http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthrea...ighlight=diffs

I'm sure others will be able to help with more specific questions. Incidentally, DCCD, particularly on the New age cars, made use of an ECU.
