Still having driveshaft problems - need an answer!
Ever since I had my car serviced in August I've known that the front right inner drive shaft needs replacing (where the shaft enters the casing its leaking grease and not around the joint boot)
I can't seem to get my usualy garage to play ball but I need to know if anyone has had this before and do they know if replacing the whole shaft will cure the leaking? Its too thick to be gearbox oil and the 'box level is fine so must be from the shaft somehow.
Where the shaft enters the case it looks as though you can tighten up the ring thats around the shaft by the fins on it - is that right?
I've always taken my car to the same place for servicing etc but after 3 calls and wrong parts turning up they haven't called me back in nearly a month to say the "right" part has arrived.

Yes, the ring is just screwed into the casing (one bolt to undo which holds the ring in place, then just gently tap out with a screw driver and hammer). I had to take off one side to change the bush in the ring.
If you take out the drive shaft you should be able to see where its leaking from, might just need welded up and the joint re-greased. Or speak to the usual suspects for a secondhand shaft (API, HDC, Grade A).
Dave.

the toothed ring holds the diff bearing in so dont move it if you are getting grease leaking out of the joint remove shaft clean out joint and regrease with subaru grease as it comes out of a small breather hole and there was a change of grease spec
