help!! gearbox???
Hello all, i have an sti v5 and a few months back it became hard to engage reverse, but soon got used to it. then when on motorways etc i would take my foot of the pedal and it would fall out of 5th, no crunching or nasty noises and not all the time, then i went to engage reverse after a long drive and it refused, as did every other gear, it was as if the gear shifter just locked. After putting it in a garage they removed the gear box and had a look but could not find anything wrong. when they reassembled , gears could be selected however you have to be very brutall especially when going from reverse to 1st, its fine when driving, anyone ever had this problem or any ideas???
look forward to your replies

None of that sounds right.
My UK turbo, 1999, had similar issues with 5th sliding out of mesh on motorway running etc.
I suggest you talk to David at www.apiengines.com

Steve, i assure you they are in Leamington Spa by Warwick!
Still a long way to go though.
I can't see you doing the fix on a tight budget, but if you take the box out and find the clutch is done for or ok then that will ease the bill as the trans is out.
If you are not a dab-hand at boxes, try finding Rally Colin on here or contact Pavlo at Zen Performance, I think they are closer to you than Warwick.
Good luck!

How did they check 'the Nut' was it removed and retorqued?
5th and reverse are on the same shaft, there is a good chance that the probs are linked.
IMHO get the box checked out by Paul @ Zen performance, he really knows his stuff and is probably the best man to assist.
