sequential shifter
Hello everyone.
Few companies make the sequential shifers for EVO. I have not heard of anyone making one for subaru.
I am looking for a sequential gearbox for a wrx 5spd ppg dogbox i have.
Have you heard of any?

You can get a sequential, but you can't simply use the ikeya system due to the subaru rod gearlinkage. The shifter would need to be bolted to the gearbox to make sure it worked correctly when the gearbox moved on the mount. Ikeya installs usually use a cable system.

The one I can remember looked quite complicated, bolted to the trands and looked much like a B&M drag shifter to me.
B&M have done them for years for the Muncie and other heveyweight boxes over there.

These guys have one currently at the testing stage. I've been keeping in touch with the guy and I'm just waiting on it being ready for production to give it a try.
Circa £1300 Euros so not too cheap at £900 ish

For the past two years, Conquest Engineering has been exploring ways into sequentially shifting a stock WRX transmission. At present we have a very reliable unit (K.A.S.S. Sequential Shifter) for a stock sincro gearbox. We are at present doing a small production run of these units. Conquest is also trialing units on dog boxes in the race environment, and initial trials have been very good. The first public showing of this race unit should be at the Silverstone, Race to the Sky (April 15th and 16th), which is the premier hill climb event held in New Zealand each year. Pricey?????
The price for our standard WRX STi is $1995.00 NZ Dollars but at this stage have not worked anything out for DogBox unit as it is still in testing stages. However it is not likely to be much different from standard unit.

Good in comparison to the other options
I would have thought the synchro version would also work on the dog box ?
Are you making it shorter shift or something as the shift pattern doesn't change

Andy, have you mailed them your car's spec yet? Do they guy's know what your plans are for it: ie an 9.5 second (or quicker ) 1/4 mile drag car with 210mph+ top speed capability 
Serious question for Conquest how fast can you cange gears with one of these units compared to a manual change...on a syncro box for example I was always beating the syncros on my changes, one would imagine that your syncro sequential shifter would need to be set up to ensure this doesn't happen...

Yes Andy, the synchro or street version is basically the same as the dog box version. The rally boy like the shift lever as close to the steering wheel as possible hence the race version has a longer lever in it and internal ratios are different to keep shift length the same. May take you up on your offer in the near future, thank you. At this stage, will stick with rally car as it has to be quick both up and down the gears. Sounds like you have one hell of a car, by all of the chatter on forum.
Tim. Yes you sure can beat up your syncros if you want to, but unit being totally mechanical, it has a good feedback through the stick and you will know when the transmission is hurting. Hope this answers your questions.

Just for clarification by 'beating the syncros' I mean the speed by which you move a conventional gear lever from one gear to the next is such that the syncro gear rings don't have time to line up and you feel the change bulk as they catch during disengagement of one gear and engagement of the next
By the sounds of it this would still be as much a problem with the sequential change mechanism on a syncro box as it is with a convetional mechanism, so it's down to the operator to prevent it...mybe I should get a dog box afterall

Right on Tim, you have hit the nail right on the head.
We did the standard version for people who want to drive sequentially and throw away their old H pattern shifter and also test the reliability.

Tim, I'm not sure how, but SMG boxes never make any nasty noises or feelings from the synchros and the boxes last, but the hardware underneath is just a conventional synchro gearbox, yet it manages 80 millisecond changes at the red line. Is it the clutch and engine control electronics that go with it that manages this? Changes are brutal enough to chirp the wheels when you change in the more aggressive modes, although only two wheels. I really like the system and would look for it or similar on any future car as it really makes good use of the available power and does it consistently.

It has been commented on that I'm a bit of an animal with the gearbox when I'm fully commited, hell I snapped the end off a selector rod soon after TOTB1!
