Magnatec oil - any good?
I'm know this has been asked billions of times and yes i have tried a search, is Magnatec any good for sticking in my Scoob??
I have a MY99 classic - totally standard with 64k on the clock.
I thought it ran on 5-30 but a guy at work said it might be too thin with it being an older engine.
Thanks in advance chaps!

I put it in the rally car after several people suggested using Magnatec 10w 40 and I bow to their superior knowledge
It does get changed after every event though!

IMO - If you want your car to loose power then use Magnatec.
I used to use it then changed to Silkolene and noticed straight after the service the car had more get up and go.
Never touched it since.

Magnatec oil is marketed to be the only oil that sticks or clings to the internal engine components, by doing this it is suggested that less wear will occur on start up as any other oil will take a few minutes to circulate and lubracate the components, magnatec as it clings to the components is already there ready to lubracate the moment you turn the key.
This is a good idea in theory but when the oil becomes degraded in time and you perform an oil change all the sludge and crap that has built up will still be sticking to the components so that when the new oil goes in these impurities will begin to circulate around the engine again, if the engine is not flushed then magnatec will continue to stick to the componets causing more and more build up as the stickyness prevents the impurities flowing out through the sump and into your drip tray as you drain the system.
I feel you would be better off with a Silkoline Pro or a Motul oil around 10-40 or as close as you can get,

Ive always found Mobile 1 or Valvoline very very good! Even after 10k it stays clear. Running on Silkonline at the mo. Scoobyclinic talked me into it, the arm twisting, money grabbers! lol only kidding was my choice.

I use Silkolene Pro S 5w-40 in my MY99 UK Turbo. Works wonders only costs about £35 from Oilman if you catch him at the right time.
I'd only use Motul or Silkolene

P.S. To add, didn't realise you were topping up.
For piece of mind why not splash out (the price of a tank of petrol) and do an oil change with Motul/Silkolene?
