Question

Hi fellow linkers, can we run more than 1.2Bar without upgrading our MAP sensors? According to my Link booklet it indicates that the standard OEM MAP sensor is good upto 1.2Bar but anything more than that and a '555' uprated one is required. Is this true???

Cheers chaps. Jacko

No, you should be able to squeeze about 1.45bar, if you have the later 1.5bar sensor.

I'm pretty certain it does, but there's one sure way to find out

Just be careful with overboost, and I'd start off by reducing the ignition in row 6, and remap it to suit the boost you run. Also, don't forget to increase the boost limit.

I'd get a serial link and start datalogging to see if it's sparkling.
Still at 1.2...and I feel the need for more power.

Yeah yeah yeah...

Uprated fuel system...bigass injectors...rods...pistons...(closed deck?)...and eventually a dogbox...and new diffs....and new driveshafts...and so on and so forth.

I'm at ~90% of injector duty now at 6500 rpm @1.2 bar....wonder if one could up it a smidge in the modrange? 1.3 mebbe....must....resist....urge...

Standard map sensor on MY97 upwards car is linear up to 1.8 bar.
Latest chipsets will hold 1.5 bar with no problem.
3 bar map sensors are problematical on 6 row chipsets (you never did get it to idle properly Mark) but are fine on the 10 row as the resolution stays the same.

Bob,

"Problematic", that's an understatement......guess it something to do with Link forgetting to sort the associated software

I think you said that's been sorted now, which will make life a lot easier......

Cheers Mark and Bob.
Bob knows the reasoning behind my question..I am just ticking all the possible boxes to a prob I currently have (hopefully now short lived once I get to see the guru).

Jerry...and there's me thinking that a phase2 is more knock tolerable...1.2Bar...tut tut..could go more with a decent map

Thanks for your input Linksters. Jacko.

(now.....where's my drill to start fitting that waterspray kit

Jacko....ffs...it's got a decent map.
I'm just a bit scaredy tunip when it comes to high boost and externally located rods.

Wink

Hi Jerry, only kidding about the map dude
Since swapping my 97MY intercooler for an STi5/P1
Intercooler and changing to an APS BOV, I have noticed some major changes.
Boost ramp rate is far quicker and so is its peak and held values.
So much so that I am now hitting my overboost limits
Even though boost is now continually higher than intended targets, no knock is evident. Then again, that could be the Optimax+Millers keeping things schweeeeeet!
Going to Richmond soon for a detune in my boost, but in return, an increase with my advance.

Bob, any news on the 97MY PC enable chip?

Jacko

P.S Jerry, I like the 18"s and rubber. Looks cool.

Cheers Jacko (nhf, I was only pulling yer leg)!

Haven't you got a tuning module, boost control can be sorted fairly easily if you know what you're doing...or have nice friends here helping you...

Hi J, I have toyed with buying the tuning module, but Bob suggested I wait for the PC enabled chip.
I am pretty confident when it comes to understanding the map
but it will be far easier and safer at first to send maps to and fro with Bob to see what he thinks before downloading. This can only be done with either a PC enabled chip or the hassle which Bob goes to when mapping and storing data to his PSION organiser.

I think I'll wait, and in the meantime benefit from Bobs wealth of experience and expertise and more importantly '**** TOLERANCE'.
Some people can be a proverbial pain in the ****....just like ME

Jacko (running 1.4bar++++++? but not for too much longer)
