if you find Bob Rawles old project thread, it goes through some of the development
mine is the larger 100mm version that needs a remap as soon as fitted ( you can't drive to the mapper )
It uses the K&N filter

Can't you drive steady to the mapper or is it imperative to get it fitted at Bob's?

You can drive it to the mappers, just take your time and drive it off boost. You can drive to mappers with different turbo/injectors/FPR etc so dont worry about a induction kit.
if you are going for an induction kit any of the K&N based (RCM,GGR,lateral performance) or Apexi are as safe for the MAF as you will get.
if you are going for an induction kit any of the K&N based (RCM,GGR,lateral performance) or Apexi are as safe for the MAF as you will get.

I was told that with the 100mm i was not to drive the car - when it was fit it wouldn't even idle - Bob had to play with the maff scaling ( i think )
would be fine driving with the 80mm

Thanks mate, that engine bay is disgustingley clean!!
I have a hybrid on mine, I like what you've done with the pipes, are they anodised or sprayed?
I'm hoping the RCM filter will fit as I don't have the ABS positioned there as it's a Type R, the water spray but removed as now redundent, hopefull I can turn the pipe enough for the filter to fit.

The RCM one is a Group A cossie one with the maf plate welded to the trumpet.
Im a prototype engine engineer and can make this bit no problem.
The cossie kit is £95 with the ally trumpet
The RCM one is £175 ?????????
Sorry but thats a MASSIVE mark up for something thats expensive or difficult to make.

Simb2, the FMIC pipes are powder coated. i was not happy with the original chroming - this should be hardier and looks better IMHO. done a lot of things in the bay in black powder now - header tank/turbo heatshield etc and it works well.
i could not close the bonnet with the big filter, as the Turbo pipe is in the way.

the silicon hose is avaliable from RCM as well. it is seperate to the kit. I am on a Bob Rawle Tek3 map
i have had no MAF problems whatsoever, but i do change it regularly. As for performance its difficult to say. the car ran 307BHP/301 ft/lb just with the induction kit and de-cat.
There has been a raft of changes since then, and its now at 405/342 on the smaller K&N cone (still with a tek3).
The RCM kit i mounted with the end of the filter hard on the wing to stop vibes - had no problem. The smaler kit came with the jubilee clip that had a M6 thread welded on it and a bracket to atach it to something solid. I could not use the bracket (you will be ablr to on a more standard car) so i just made a bracket and atached it to the header tank to cut vibes which you can see below. Again, had no problems like this.

No problems with the MAF. I did change it just for piece of mind at 60k miles, and will do again in another 60k time
I'm running Ecutek (mapped by Powerstation). Just had it dynoed last week at 409bhp/408lbs
The Samco hose I got from RCM as part of the kit, although it needed to be cut short to get the filter shoe horned in there
No supporting brackets, as the filter is jammed in nice and tight and then FMIC piping won't allow it to move.

How much difference BHP wise do you think id gain from the cooler and IK?
Dunno if id be better off to no cut my bumper etc and just run a bigger TMIC and a panel filter.
Its all a visious circle lol
Im staying on the standard turbo and 2.5" centrepipe and backbox

I think if you put a FMIC on, your standard turbo (VF35) 'won't be man enough' for it.

If you are tracking the car \ very warm climate can't see naything wrong with it. Im not sure if you will see any RR gain on your current vf35
if it makes any difference RCM told me not to both when I had a vf35 \ p18

think most get 320 to 345 with usual mods
think more depends on rolling road used
I got 320/320 but also had a larger hot side ( p18 ) making it more like a vf34 but was on a wrx

Reference the FMIC, there is a very interesting article in a previous copy of J Tuner (I think) about a Greek or Cypriot company modifying a MY03 STi up to something mental like 450/500BHP and they found (even in hot 40 degree ambient temperatures in the Med) that the standard STi Top mount was more effective than a front mount.
Before I get shot down in flames, I would like to point out that I know nothing about this technical subject and I am simply regurgitating something I have read in a magazine.......therefore it may be a load of bo**ocks!
All I know is that they have a very powerful STi running in hot ambient temperatures still with the STi TMIC.
I will try and find the article for you to read Frayz.
