Flat spot/hesitation at about 5500 rpm in 2nd. Any ideas?

Well, I fitted new HT leads (OE) and NGK Laser Platinum plugs and had the ECU reset last night then I took the car for a bit of a thrash.
Total result
The missfire, which had been getting much worse over the last couple of days (impossible to used more than 1/4 throttle and totally unable to overtake anything), has vanished.
The only down side was the cost of the plugs and leads

Noticed the other morning a slight hesitation when accelerating in 2nd at full throtle. It is nothing violent, just a momentary reduction in pulling power (blimey I've experienced that too come to think of it ) Any ideas?

Yes, a kind of missfire - like one of the cylinders going down momenarily resulting in a loss of power. It's getting worse now so I think the lead change will be accompanied by new spark plugs - may try Bosch Super 4's

Slight change of plan - having spoke to the local Subaru dealer he said that it sould also be the coils breaking down - he will do a FOC check for me on Friday - I'll let you know what the result is.

Just to be sure, you do know about the "noise reduction" feature in the ECU right? When accelerating in 2nd gear at full throttle, you only get half boost if speed is held at 50kmh for "a few seconds" before full throttle is given.

Rikki,
I took out the coil packs & plugs(NGK PFR6B's) last night & re-gapped cleaned plug & coil pack, re-fitted - the lot & most noticably (so far ony driven it 3 times) it doesn't misfire as often - you really have to let of the throttle & then blip the throttle to get it to misfire. It doesn't even sound as LOUD as before.
Mine was misfiring loudly & badly over the past few days - really embarrassing when pulling away slowly between 1.5K & 2K revs. It'd misfire when I even touched the throttle.
Other threads mentioned the precise position of the coil packs being important - I think I may try & fiddle with these over the weekend.
2 of the coil packs were scored & burnt more & 2 plugs darker - darker plugs I think came from the coil packs that were scored & burnt more.
Can anyone shed light on whether they'd be in fine working order. Plugs went in about 3K ago.
Johny.
