Hello again !

Does anyone know what the 'Primary Control' parameter represents that can be retrieved from the select monitor ?

I'm just trying to work out what data is worth logging, and what isn't when comparing engine stats before and after mods.

Thanks for your help.

If you have access to a select monitor, surely you can get hold of the relevant technical manuals as well?

Hi Moray,

Life's never easy...

I used a select monitor for a couple of sessions, whilst sat outside a friendly company. I have now replicated the select monitor hardware & software functionality on my laptop. Whilst I probably _could_ get hold of the manuals from them too, I don't want to 'outstay my welcome', since I may need their help again for trickier things. That's my last resort.

I think lots of people on this bbs have direct access to the manuals.

Cheers

Stephen,

Well done. I suspect lots of people on this board may also be interested in a laptop based select monitor replacement.

ah if you have managed to copy the software can you get to the screen which allows you to adjust the idle speed?

The select monitor rom version I traced didn't have a screen to do that, as far as I am aware. Is this feature wishful thinking, or have you seen this feature in use ;-)

One of the new select monitor ROMs does allow you to retard the ignition. I haven't seen how _that_ is done yet. Anyone got that version and would let me plug it into my car ?

The latest suggestion I've had is that primary control is something to do with boost control. Is it a posh name for wastegate duty cycle I wonder ? The units are percent - I know that much.

Hi Stephen

I can't take credit for the following (thanks Carlos ), and it's completely non-verified......but;

On Select Monitor
-----------------
Press and hold both the "S" and the "V" (scroll down) keys for 5 seconds and a new menu will appear.

This menu should allow idle speed to be increased at 50rpm steps and also to retard the ignition upto 5 degrees.

The retard feature was developed for countries with poor octane fuel.

I'm *very* interested to hear how you go

Thanks for clearing that up, Pete !

Now I can sleep at night :-)
(Oh yes, I am that sad !)

Steve

P.S. ScoobyBoy: Once I can get my hands on a select monitor with the newer cartridge that has this feature, I'll let you know whether it works with my car.

stephendone it's not the select moniter that allows you to alter the revs on it's own the ecu has to have the capacity to do it as well i know that so far i havn't found a turbo to do it yet i havn't tried a 01my though but i will have a play and let you know.

I realise that :-)

Have a go with retard feature too if you have time, and let us know.

Just to let you all know what I found out...

The new ROM for the select monitor allows you to alter the ignition by up to -5 degrees in 1 degree steps. You can also alter the idle speed by -100 to +300 RPM in 50 RPM steps. You can set different idle speeds for with/without the air con on too.

This works on 99/00MY cars, and will also work on some Subaru Legacy cars.

This information is stored in RAM, and is lost when the battery is disconnected or the ECU is reset.

Let me know if you hear of any other features and I'll investigate and post my findings.

Cheers

Steve
