Question

Hi all, I'm having the clutch replaced on my MY99 by my dealer under warranty ( done 22k but is making a grinding noise ), should I use this opportunity to get the dealer to fit uprated Subaru parts whilst they have got it apart ?
They said they would be changing the flywheel, pressure plate and clutch plate.

Cheers

Hi mate my good friend babber had this problem with his MY00 and has just had a new clutch fitted under warranty at 21k he was reliably informed that due to the clutch judder experienced on these models the dealers are fitting P1 uprated clutches on all models. Hope this helps but maybe you should ask them of their ententions before they fit it.

Spoke to my dealer about this, Adams, they didn't know anything about P1 clutches being used, they said they just send IM the chassis number and they send them the correct parts.

Have tried ringing IM customer services a couple of times but no one answers the phone, great customer service department eh !

I will try them again this afternoon.

Jay,

I had my clutch replaced in the same place as Babber and was informed that they knew nothing about the P1 housing/clutches being used to replace the duds. This story varies from dealer to dealer and I dont know for sure but I think my replacement was a standard which showed and shows th juddering signs agine within a couple of hundred miles!

Before you go through the time and effort of getting IM approval for a dealer to fit the P1 clutch and uprated flywheel, ask those people on here who have had this work done. I remember reading a few posts from people who were not happy with this "upgrade" as after a while the infamous clutch judder returned

IMHO I would save your pennies and go for a "real" clutch upgrade i.e. something like the AP racing organic setup. People who have had this fitted swear by it and it completely fixed the judder. It's not cheap but that's what I'm saving up for next.

HTH,

Alex

Thumbs down

Finally got through to IM Customer Relations, had to leave a message for them to ring me in the end. Anyway they said that each case is taken on its own merits and that some fixes would use a P1 clutch, but they couldn't tell me which cases, as this was decided by the 'warranty team'. So they said just to wait and see what was fitted, which was useful, not !
