The up-pipe is the short section that goes from the cast exhaust manifold up to feed the turbo. Its a bit of a bummer to change mind...

Howdy folks overseas (My first post here, I'm from the Jersey on the other side of the ocean).

Anyhow, we're all replacing our uppipes to remove the catalyst therefore increasing flow on the input side of the turbo. This is in hopes of reducing turbo lag. It's a hell of a job to replace, but so far the results look very promising.

Guess you are talking about the MY01 (or 02 over there), up to MY00 in this part of the world the up pipe did not contain a cat.

Yes, the US MY02. I presume the UK MY01-02 also have the catalytic in the uppipe?

Yes the UK MY01 has a pre-cat in the up pipe as does your MY02.

hi...

does that mean for cars that don't have a pre-cat in the up-pipe it's not worth uprating it? i.e. do aftermarket up-pipes for the earlier (e.g. my96 wrx) scoobs give any benefit over standard ones?

thanks...

You're right Milo, the up-pipe is the same size and is only used to replace the cat on 01 cars so if you have an old shape impreza there is no need to change it.

When I ported my manifolds I replaced the up pipe with one from GGR. It is far less restrictive than the standard one which needs quite a bit taken out of it to match the manifold but you can't because of the design. The GGR one is already the correct size. Cost was £100 and there is a pic on their web site.

Raymond.
