Question

I've just had a Unichip fitted and the restrictor was changed to get more boost. My car now peaks at 1.4-5 bar that's 21 PSi. Is this safe on a UK engine? The boost drops to 1 bar after a second or two.

Is this safe?

1.5bar is high for a UK turbo. It would be sensible to get the tuner to reduce it.

Restrictors DON'T increase overall boost, JUST overboost.

Get a decent boost controller fitted, and correctly set up.

Mark.

I've changed the restictor so now it peaks at 1.2 bar instead of 1.5. All should be OK now.

Cheers

Might be good fun if you now make it hold 1.2 bar with a boost controller?

Hi Tim
How's the unichip. I heard you were at Donno but I didn't know which car?
When I had it fitted I had an EVC IV as well cos they couldn't set it up perfectly and they didn't have time to spend on it that day, so I went back a month later and got the EVC fitted then.
Mine was running a constant 16-17psi and peaking at 18 unless I was in a high gear with passengers, then it got too high and I backed off!
Powerstation said that 1.1-1.2 bar is about maximum for the UK engine!
Good luck
Steve

Hi Steve

I saw your car but it didn't click it was you. As it goes I had a bad track day due to rubbing slicks on my rear arch so only had a few laps. I spent most of my time sorting out my wheels and tyres.

The Unichip is working fine. The car pulls much better and has more grunt top end. I'll see how I go with the boost. A boost controller will do more for me but I don't have the cash at the moment but I was tempted when I was getting it mapped.

May be later

Tim
