I bought an euro import MY01 2nd hand with only 2000 miles on the clock. The only hassle I had with it was a dodgy syncro from 3rd to 4th (my 1st service and this was also metioned to me by my dealer).

Well, as the miles have increased, and one track day later it seems to have disappeared?? Any thoughts??

gearbox oil migth mask the problem?

surely it came with a years warranty?

I would complain bitterly and get them to sort it, unless it rears its expensive head out of warranty.

Did the dealer fit Subaru specification sawdust or another brand?

Thumbs up

Perhaps you are 'driving' around the problem now?

Oil is the first thing they try but it is a long shot.

I have not made myself to clear. The problem only got better during and after I went to Donington. I was testing this yesterday by changing gear at high revs (for testing purposes only), and I could not get it to do it.

The dealer only confirmed what I knew, that it needed doing. It was only its 7500 or 6 month service.

Thanks

I replied to this thread yesterday but my reply seems to have disapeared, well I can't see it anyway ?

When my MY98 had a few thousand miles on it,I started to get a crunch into forth at 4K revs or above.Over the space of 1K miles it got so bad that it happened on every change no matter how slowly I changed.I was almost due a service so I never took it to the dealers and in the next 1K miles before the service it completely cured itself and has been fine since.

I asked about this at the time and nobody else had heard of it on Scoobynet but I found a few threads about it on the I-club BBS.They had stripped the boxes and found no wear on any of the parts but the friction surface of the syncro and hub on the crunching gear seemed to have some sort of contamination. After this was cleaned off the box was as good as new.

I also seem to remember that EVO mag were running a Forrester at the time and this had the same fault.

I don't know if this is the same problem as yours but it does sound the same, with a bit of luck yours will be OK in the future like mine has been.

Yep, that has happened to a few people in Aus. The synchro rings seem to glaze over and not work properly. Some people were getting them shot peened to try to avoid it happening. I don't know if it worked and it's so rare, I don't know how you would tell.
