Hi
I know this has probably been asked a few times before but, what do you need to fit a Type R box into a UK classic
1 Gear Box (obviously)
2 Rear diff, can you just change the crown wheel and pinion in the uk diff
3 DCCD Controler (any options on this?) Or just run it as an open diff?
4 ??????
Also what kind of power can these boxes take ?
Thanks
Jon

Just done this into my Sti V3.
You probably have a 4:444 diff in the box, so need a 4:444 rear diff R160 size (the Type R is a R180 size, wont fit the UK car!)
To fit a dccd from subaru is difficult but not impossible if you are determined and can find all the parts (good luck!)
Alternative is Product from the USA/Canada.
The right question is what torque can they take, about 380Lbft.
Are you sure you want to do this mod?
The ratios are very short and you UK engine does not rev compared to a Type R engine (8000 rpm red line).
Hope this helps.
Graham.

Hi
Thanks for the info, I already have a STi V4 lump fitted and a 20g with the compulsary supporting mods, I'm now looking for a gearbox that will take the stress.
I can find plenty of Type R boxes for sale but I'm strugling to find a rear diff. any suggestions.
Or would a 6 speed be a better option
Thanks.

I know the feeling well about the rear diff.
I have an Sti V3 with visc lsd and the 4:444 as I've installed a plated diff whole (just). It is a R160 size, so simple bolt-in.
Finding 4:444 diffs is tricky, so thinking of keeping it.
David at Welcome to the API website has a large rack of R160 diffs!
Some of the 6 speeder diffs are R180 size and need lots of changes to fit a classic.
My engine is the same as yours.
When API stripped my box to fit the plated front, they found some well worn parts in there, particularly 3rd synchro. The box was from a low miles Type R (well used maybe..)
There is a good sounding box on eb@y right now.(but no diffs!)

Hi
that box on ebay was a ty752vb3fa from a RA with the centre diff added later, not sure if its such a good buy now as it will be the early gearbox design. Any ideas?
Cheers

Leave it IMHO.
The one you want for a stronger box is like mine, TY 754VB1CA
Stronger case and gears.
Mine was undisturbed when I bought it.
Might be wrong, but i think there is a type R one for sale in For Sale?
