Default Which Crank?

I shall be starting my 2 litre build in the next few months and looking just to obtain all the parts needed before I start. One part on the list I'm not too sure about is the crankshaft.

I have heard people say the sti8 or 9 is the best crank to go for as its nitrided and tuftrided, question is will it be compatible with my early closed deck block?

If not what are my other options, not looking to spend a fortune on it but wanting a strong engine for around 400bhp.

Any suggestions welcome

Kris

To fit the phase 2 crank into the phase 1 block the block will need machining AFAIK. Its not very expensive.

The part you need is the JDM crank which is grooved and nitrated as fitted to the MY03 JDM STi's onwards, not the uk ones (they are not the same).

You need to have the block machined for the rear thrust bearing as this is what the later cranks have and the early ones have a centre thrust bearing (ie your closed deck). This basically means you have to run two sets of main bearings so don't forget to work out the cost for this also.

If you need a man who can do all this work for you then pm me and i will help. I am in glasgow too so perhaps the guy i use may be your answer.
