search through project and other websites (no link) and you can convert your own (need to be or know someone good with a tig welder).

quite simple if I remember right............always fancied it myself.

hey sponners, that link was sweet, thanks very much. it confused me for a while but i have it now, i have stripped the center diff out and ill be taking it to work at the weekend, it is really easy to do, i thought you would have to split the box, if i could be bothered i would split it, take out the front diff and block the front shaft holes up but i will just do the easy weldind bit first on the center diff first, ill keep you posted with the project, thanks once again for pointing me in the way of an excellent link, phil.

i would think they are the same, the one i have in pieces is of the AWD and the teeth are:-
2 small ones have 10 teeth
1 big heavey one has 14 teeth
and the lighter one the other end of the heavey one also has 14 teeth,
hope this helps and ill let you know my progress.
by the way if its a spare center diff you have just lying around, get your welder out and have some fun with it, you wont use it on anything else and you have obviously been thinking about it, go on.

i have just looked at the thread you sent and the center diff in the pics are a little different to mine, the part where it all seperates from on mine has a castle edge to fix them together and a be serclip, in the pics it is smooth on the edges, so i might change my mind about them being the same (i looks anyway) i would say the diffs are the same.

I saw a STI 2 down Power Engineering which had been converted. The guy had done it himself but was pretty secretive about how he went about it. But it did look to see a impreza in a RWD drift.....
Good luck hope it works out for you...

as you know i am converting a spare box into RWD and today i welded the center diff, it was easier than i thought to convert and weld, so if anyone is thinking of doing it, i would say dont be dawnted as most people are about gearboxes, just have a go, it will suprise you how easy it is.
i had the welder on 150 amps to get a good contact and there was no problems at all, all i need now is a few hours to swap them over, ill let you know how it drives like once ive got it on, it might be i a few weeks but ill let you all know, thanks once again to sponners for finding the link which put me on the right track for this project, phil.
