A few can do it, API, Zen and ScoobyClinic to name a few.

Rough cost according to Zen's website is £2.7k all in Zen Performance - Gearbox Builds but I think the gearset had a price rise since that build estimate

The box of bits = about 2.7K and you will want the other nice bits such as the selectors/synchros etc.
Cost goes up to remove/instal in car if needed.

6 speeder = £2K all done....

As above, with a big 500 bhp engine you wont notice the weight gain of about 30Kg.
You will notice the smooth gear change though, and the strian to fit it.

Matt,

I'd suggest you speak to some people with big BHP/Torque cars, about the gearboxes they use, before making any decision.

Cars with big torque (450ftlbs +) cry out for longer gearing, and the short 6 speed gearing is a PITA.

486 lbft after last night Mark

I agree that any shorter gearing than the PPG 1-4 with 4.44 diffs would not be enjoyable - the gears fly through quick enough as it is

This is a mine field, and after going through all these hoops I ended up with a Type R V5 trans out of exasperation.

Staffi:

A few thousand here or there is about parr for the Subaru tuning world!

I would have thought the 6 speeder ratios are much the same as the Type R's, so a 2.35 (say) would rip through those ratios too?

Graham,

I too have a sti5 type r transmission but only because I drive an sti5 type r. On my current 2.33 the ratios are indeed too short and thats with me only running 400 ft/lbs. When my rotated garrett is up and running in a few weeks I will get Andy to look at the data and compare how long I spend in gear Vs the time I spend shifting for you.

I know in myself that the ratios will be way too short for circa 500ft/lbs so will be speaking to Mark for a ppg 1-4 kit and also changing my cwp to 3.9. A uk fifth will aslo be thrown in at the same time but I guess that wouldn't make a lot of difference to you on a hil climb.

I can vouch for the 4.44 diff problems I spend about 1.5 seconds in third on a 1/4 mile run, I am in the process of changing to 3.9's

Good points. The Type R ratios are ok so far with my massive 350bhp x 8000 rpm but only about 340 lbft...
The thought of changing everything again is not on, hence a torquey engine without going crazey, about 400 lbft and this gearbox.

I feel another car coming on!

Graham.

On 2.5 with GT30R i liked the 4.444's with PPG kit. The gears didn't feel too short with that spec. The car crossed the 1/4mile line in 4th gear but was on the limiter.
With the larger GT35R on the car, it needed 3.9's for the 1/4 mile as the gear ratios were definitely too short and needed the 5th gear!
