Noticed that my car (MY99 UK turbo) has been running rougher over the past couple of days and now when I come to a standstill it's often stalling. You stop and the rev counter dips down well below 1k, it sometimes then errratically blips back up over 1k (and down again) or sometimes it just stalls.

I've only had the car a couple of weeks and the car is currently running on Superunleaded (97 ron) from Esso. This is the first time I've run the car on this fuel, maybe it doesn't like it?? It's seems to be running rougher as I get down to the last dregs in the tank. It's still 4k miles away from a service (next will be 60k miles) so I'm assuming filters etc. are ok.

Any ideas what could be wrong? Thanks in advance for any pointers.

Dave.

MAF sensor buddy. I would change that before anything else!

As far as I'm aware, if the MAF sensor had gone, the engine wouldn't rev higher than 4,000 rpm.

It sounds like it could be the Idle Speed Control Valve, I've had exactly the same problems with mine. Has the Check Engine warning light come on at all? Even if you haven't seen it, it might be worth checking the ecu for the fault code

It could also be the blow off valve, leaking.

Dave,

Under the dash there are 2 black plugs.

Turn your ignition on (no need to turn on engine)

Plug them together and watch the Check engine light, it will flash long and short flashes, and it will keep repeating the same code. Remember the code. ie. 2 long, 2 short etc etc

If you have any probs I have mailed you my mobile number
