Downpipe advice - Magnex or Scooby mania
#1
![Question](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/icons/icon5.gif)
Hi all,
I'm looking at replacing the downpipe/midsection on my P1 (I already have the Prodrive P1 silencer and I want to keep it!)
I am comparing the ScoobyMania straight through system, which looks like the Aussie MRT one imported (complete with little wastegate baffle?) at £225+vat and the Magnex one off Graham Goode at £153+vat, the price difference between the 2 is about £75...
I wondered if anybody knows the answers to these simple questions!! (the dealers don't seem that much help - probably my fault
)
1) Is the Magnex system 3" or 2.5"?
2) Can I bolt these systems straight to the P1WR exhaust or will I need an adapter
Thanks in advance for any help...

Charlie,
Have you asked Mike @ Scoobymaina? He *will* know the answers to your question!!
I'm pretty certain that the Scoobymaina is 3" straight through and the Magnex is 2.5". Mike should be able to confirm for you though![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)

since the pipe diameter of the Prodrive box is 2,5 inches, I would personaly go for a 2,5 inches center and downpipe, e.g magnex, scoobysport, scorpion etc. Unless of course you are planning mega mods, in that case you better go for the scoobymania bits and get their backbox as well.

Now ordered the Scoobymania one...
The only reason I am keeping the P1WR one is for the P1 logo pointing out the back... oh and so I don't have to spend another £250.
Lets see what it sounds like and go from there![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)

Magnex D/P is twin dump and 3". P1 sport back box is great, an improvement on the standard STi box fitted to the P1, and I wouldn't waste my money on another back box, especially when you probably won't get any power gain, just noise.
Enjoy.

Damn, ScoobyMania missed the delivery van... Won't be here till tommorow... Now I've missed the slot at the garage....
Has anybody tried fitting these without the aid of a hydralic ramp??? is it even possible? (I'm an ex mechanic, if I had a ramp I would do it without question, but I don't want to half do it and not be able to put it back!!)

Charlie,
The dp is easy to fit,i did mine with a set of the drive up ramps on my drive,you need a good socket set with loads of extensions,i did my 2nd one with the intercooler in place,cant remember if you need the ic out to get at the heatshield bolts though.
Cheers Paul

I disagree with the fact that the DP is easy to fit...
Mine was fitted at Scoobymania and it took about 2 hours (as those bolts that attach the downpipe have a tendancy to seize up after getting hot a few times) so its reccommended that you either 1. go to somewhere you know they can replace a downpipe and have spare bolts if any of your oringinal ones shear. 2. if you do it yourself that you have the said replacement bolts incase any break.
I found the power gains to be around 15bhp by adding the downpipe but i would be careful on a P1 as they seem to be a little "sensitive" to modifications like this
(a remap may help you out there though
)

Long time ago this...
Got a garage down the road to fit all of it in the end, only cost £20. But it's a lot easier with a ramp or a pit as the mounts neaded a little 'persuasion'.
Over-all not a difficult job, once you take the intercooler off, as its easy to get to the turbo then - but my car was still less than 18 months old when we did the exhaust. I have spoken to a a couple of people who had a lot of problems with the bolts to the turbo... Just like manifold bolts they get hot and rusty. Leave them over-night with a good soaking of WD40 and be prepared to replace them if they are very rusty.
Biggest problem once fitted is overboost, but a little trial and error with the restrictor in the wastegate pipe soon sorted that.
Cheers...
