Jumping out of gear

I have a MY 2000 Type R. Today coming back from a longish motorway drive, the car jumped out of 5th gear. Happened once, cruising 60ish and looking back, I suppose it could have been me not selecting 5th fully.
However, the gearbox has always been a slight worry for me. I bought the car 2.5 years back with 60000 miles on the clock and at the 60000 service was told I needed a new gearbox by a main dealer. 5th was slightly crunchy selection and they quoted £4k for a 6 speed box. I decided to buy my time and 25000 miles / 2 years later its still going strong - cruchiness has got better over time and to be fair, I never notice it now - that is until today with the jump.
So, any clues? Is this the start of something serious or just one of those things. I did a further 150 miles with no problems. The car has a full history, new clutch and runs like a dream with no other issues. Now mainly employed on school run duties, this was the first long run it had had in nearly 3 months - round trip of 350 miles or so.
