I've just blown the box on my '01 UK WRX. 3rd went with a mighty crunch and grind coming up the A1 sliproad, leaving me just 4th to get home. It's just been remapped so it was probably only a matter of time, but I really need to get a box in there quick smart. Now seeing as i live in the real world it ain't gonna be feasible to put in a dogbox or 6 speed with diffs etc. Does anybody know what box will fit or if API do an affordable upgrade box, or is it gonna be better to rebuild my existing box (condition permitting) using decent bearings with replacement Subaru gearsets. Please help as I wanna get back on the road as Its running 324 / 301 and the suns still shining!!

tbh if you've blown one, then your prob gonna blow another im afraid. , but having said that 300ftlb's shouldn't worry the standard box, did you miss a gear? (not trying to insult you but easiest way to kill a box) or did it just go?

rebuild the box - £800ish
6 speder - £2000ish
5 speed ppg set - £3000 ish

API will do a recon 5 sp for £750 + vat, plus fitting (maybe £200). You can get them to mail it to your local garage for about £100.

Get a lightened flywheel & STi clutch while you're at it !
