Default gearbox faults when upping the power

gearbox faults what let go (weak points ) on the five speed box when upping the power. is it worth rebuilding gearbox with stronger parts to replace the known weak ones or obtain the six speed with the extra parts which seem to cost a fortune. looking forward to replys

depends how far yoru going.

the standard 5 speed box's end to reach a limit at about 350bhp/350ftlb (ftlb tends to be the killer rather than bhp).

options for upgrading are:

6 speed - £2000 ish (plus changes ratios and may need different diffs etc)

rebuild 5 speed with helical or straight cut ppg or similar £3000ish

(plus then add the dreaded)

You should be ok on the std 5 speed at your level. Driving style is a big factor.

What's a "Microwave cloaking alarm" ?

Get many Klingons in Wales?

really looking at weak points on gearbox. rebuilt a few others myself and agree torques a big killer. it seems reading some of threads on here the syncros play up first then gears start to dissappear. i am aiming for 350bhp seems after that figure things start to get unreliable.

To answer your question scoob 04 the microwave cloaking device fills the car with microwaves and takes the shape of the interior so you can leave windows down without alarm going off, soon as you break the wave pattern, eg putting hand in all hell breaks loose. they are really an excellant way to protect ragtops with the top down. i like it for the shows, on hot days leave windows down so people can have look, but put hand in and you"ll be deafened. and yes klingons are a prob in wales but i just burn them off check my scoob piccy

tbh 3rd gear tend to be the issue rather than 1st.

at 350 i'd recomend a stronger box

Ta I did wonder; sounded like something out of an early Star Trek episode!

"Captain we have a Klingon vessel de-cloaking on our starboard bow!"
