ok we are aware that it is torque that kills a gerabox not bhp, but at what point have they let go.
i run a 99uk turbo and want o run more power but i do not want to kill the box so trying to find out a figure which they boxes seem to be happy at, so thought i would ask to try and gauge it,
so if anyone who has replaced a gearbox at some point due to it letting go or just decided to change to a 6 speed or PPG, can you also add in a post for how many miles did it hold out for

i blew mine (my00) after 80k, how long they last depends on a few things, how much power the car has, how the car is driven, how smoothly the gearchanges are done etc etc
6 speed changes the ratios, some folks dont mind that some hate it (mate had one and dispised it, always seemed to not have the ratio he wanted when driving).
i went down the stright cut ppg box, love the sound, but also had a uk 5th put in for moptorway driving

about 260bhp and 280 ftlb. however i was giving it death round the isle of mann at the time. i think i prob missed a gearchange adn that was enough to see it off.
its not outright power that tends to kill thenm its shock loading

I was running 280/280 ish when i stripped all the teeth off 2nd.
Dropped down to 2nd to take a roundabout..... bang, crunch etc etc
Also killed reverse and the clutch trying to get it on the scoobyclinic flat bed truck.

so was looking to get a vf35 or similar fitted may be an 18g but not too sure if the box will hold out.
thing is if teh box goes i will go for a 6 speed or PPG so at that point might as well go for a bigger turbo too but would rather spend money fitting the vf35 and mapping as if teh box packs up it woul dof been a waste of time.
but dont want to spend taht kind of money on a gearbox but fancy a little more out of the car
hit ad miss option i think i may be lucky or may not
crossed fingers i think
