Hi my first post. I have a standard 99 classic on a standard gearbox. Transfer gears half stripped which has chipped the drive pinion gear and swarf jammed selector for 3rd/4th. The box was fine before this happened (nice and quite) although it had done 155K. What would better cost wise and reliability a rebuild or a decent exchange.
I have a secondhand box in at the moment (from a breakers yard) but it whines at 40mph and then goes quite before whining at 70mph so I think in time it will let go.
Thanks

most reputable places will just switch the box for you. aka you buy a box they have already rebuilt and they take yours off to rebuild for the next cutstomer. saves on down time for you
