does anyone know if you have to fit the Pace radiator with the fmic,or can I keep the standard one? the price I have seen is for a fmic/rad kit.

always looking at the worst scenario me ,so if the rad etc move back,this will move them closer to the timing belt cover.how much clearance is there?,if it's very close a small shunt,only pushing the front panel back an inch,giving light cosmetic damage,could burst the cover and break the timing belt .you can tell I do not rush into anything .

You might also argue that as the pace intercooler lives inside the subframe, where the standard subaru cooling rads live, and isn't sticking out in the bumper, where most FMIC's live, that the pace setup is less likely to be damaged by "small shunts" and or parking incidents... such as an idiot backing their towhook into your intercooler.

I saw a scoob written off once for a broken headlight and a dented wing.the battery must have moved accross and caught the timing belt cover and made a small hole in it, the timing belt must have then swallowed the 5p size bit of plastic,jumped and bent 4 valves (iirc)on the left head ,my m8 bought it at an auction thinking it was a bargain until he tried to start it,luckily he is a mechanic.

We have fitted a Pace kit to a '99.
Probably a similar set up except perhaps the induction position (?)
After we struggled with ours (all ok once you know) we e-mailed Pace with a few constructive comments and asked them to produce a set of (even limited) instructions for all the poor buggers that were going to fit them and have a bit of a guessing game.
Feedback from Pace was good, they said they would produce a set next time they had a scoob in.
If we can be of any help to any of you lot who are about to enter the realms of "Frontmountism" let us know.
When we say we, we mean Mole and his Dad.

It took me and Mole 2 days without instructions, we took the whole front of the car off!!!
Didn't need to do that (found out later) but at least we could clean behind the bumper

It can be done in (we do it in), 4 hours or less, you don't need to remove the bumper.
The reason the kit has a radiator as part of the kit is both to increase the efficiency over the OEM radiator (it sees less and hotter air due to the placement of the FMIC), and to accomodate the pipes coming over the top of the shorter radiator, hence reducing the pipe lengths and not having to run pipes underneath the car.

Mike fitted mine to my MY94 WRX, and you do need to refabricate the inlet pipes/induction kit mounting. You won't get it in with a standard airbox! Some of the pipework needed some slight tweaking to get it to go past the oil filler neck etc. There is no appreciable increase in lag. It is very tight on the cam covers (especially on the drivers side, only about 5 - 10 mm clearance).

T-uk, I was a bit spoilt before we fitted the FMIC as I had a Scoobysport de-cat downpipe for about 3 weeks.
This, coupled with the PPP gave reeeaaallly quick "spool up" and terrific mid range punch.
After fitting the FMIC (and poncing about with boost) the lag was only slight, in fact the car still feels quite torquey even when not in pos boost.
The pipe runs are kept as short as possible, in fact the kit is designed with this in mind, hence the "over the top" route and not under.
Now that we have "fine tuned" the HKS boost controller and fitted the HKS super seq dump valve things feel really good.
Some people reckon its a waste with the standard turbo, well, I am enjoying every minute of my waste of money!!! (285bhp 266lb).
Hope the pic uplink downlink gismo fing works ..........

Regarding induction kits and FMIC's, do you know if the PACE (for example) will fit nicely with an APC Cool Air system? (I guess so, just not 100% sure).

Is that a Blitz induction kit on there ??
If it is did Pace supply the extension pipework to get the air filter close to the head light ?
Did you have to lose the turbo air cooler metalwork that is fed from the left hand side of the bonnet scoop ?
What how much and what type of anti-freeze did you use to re-fill the water coolant system ?
