STILL NO FLAMES !

Please help me..
Sti v5, decat ss exhaust,
optimax with whole bottle of millers per 45 litres,
and I have just fitted a Forge vta dumpvalve from TSL, BUT STILL NO FLAMES OR POPS AND BANGS! what do i have to do?
Does the valve need to work itself in? does not seem to release the presure very quickly.
Am i using too much millers?
Someone must have the answer.. Please tell me before I go mad!

Try driving down the motorway in fourth gear at sixty, pop it into third, accelarate slowely to take the revs up to 4500rpm, hold it for about 10 sec, then blip the accelerator and lift your foot off the accelerator pedal completely, quickly...
Or buy my car

So...japanese steel is better at producing flames...?
I think it has something to do with the latter cars not running that rich on overrun...I did get pops and bangs, but no flames in my MY00 turbo (with crappy SS and Forge products)...
I've had a few nice blue ones lately though (looning about on a icy parking lot in my now linked vf24:ed scoob).

I get pops and bangs and the occasional flame from my GGR vent to atmos DV despite being assured it wouldn't happen on my MY00 decatted K&N panel filter Optimaxed & Broquets but it does on over run when exhaust is hot. I was surprised the other day when waiting at a junction just ready to set off pretty sharpish I "jabbed" the accelerator revving the engine to about 4000 RPM which got the DV going and produced a mighty bang! Frightened the pedestrians but I creased up!

Keith,
It's an MY00, with Scoobysport xzorst (full system), ITG air filter and run on super unleaded plus 2point octane booster since new. Can't tell if the BOV's actually got quicker but have to say I'm impressed with the speed that it snaps shut. On quick changes going up high through the rev range it seems to squeek rather than wooosh. Throttle seems a lot more responsive and there seems to be slightly less lag also.
Chuffed,
Scott

The secret is just getting the exhaust very hot and lifting off from full boost at high revs.
You won't see small ones yourself, but when you get it right, you will see yellow flashes in the rear view mirror.
Such fun

What Pete said, I get this all the time, don't even need to try. 3 inch stainless with a single borla muffler. My cousins Porsche 911 does this the best hard acceleration 3rd, 4th, 5th then button off huge pop and masive flame, oh the joys of having such a short exhaust pipe.

Used to get a lot of pops and bangs on my old MY00 fiited with full decat 'crap' <sigh> Scoobysport exhaust system - even more so with the Bailey dumpvalve
Haven't had the same with my new car - MY01 with Scoobysport DP/centre and backbox with Forge DV. Perhaps I might need to do the up pipes on the turbo as well? (I'm sure Pete would say yes )

I've got a TSL dp and bb (standard centre) with ITG and get pops and bangs all the time (without trying), use optimax without octane booster.
No flames though (yet)

Is it down to the amount of Millers i use?
1 bottle per 45 litres of optimax.
I think i will get some Pro-boost and try that today.
My car is so pop free it is unbelievable.. the only time it will do it is when slowing down to a junction, when in first gear as the revs drop to about 1400 rpm.
I KNOW THIS IS A BIT OF A SILLY QUEST, BUT THEN AGAIN WE MUST BE ALL MAD FOR DRIVING ROOS.

I don't use octane boosters any more just Optimax (apparently UK cars don't see any real benefit above Optimax octane levels). The secret is just to get the exhaust very hot.
Having said that some days I seem to get squat and others a whole range of fun sounds. Not sure if the variation is down to weather or my wuss driving!

My decat exhaust used to have to get really hot before owt happened
Last weekend, took resonator box off (Well Hanslow did ) and now it seems that the pipe just needs to be warm
It pops and crackles as opposed to out right Banging and i don't think that flames are occouring but i'm thinking that the extra bit of air going through the system might be all good.
I wonder if you get less "action" if your air filter is due a clean/replacment. Just wondered.
Best pops and bangs i've heard in a long while is Salsa Kings car. Decatted, Bailey Dump Valve, NUL and hot exhaust. Sat at traffic lights after a motorway run, next to a Skyline (With a Muttha of a "bin" exhaust ) and just by revving upto about 4,000rpm and lifting off, 3ft flames and the Deepest bang i've ever heard from a scoob. Every time on command.

Hrm. STi V.4 3" MRT TB exhaust. There is an intake which consists of a cylinder type filter only because I didn't get the STi intake with the engine swap. Should said flames be possible with my car or do I need to change stuff? Not driving behind myself it's hard to know if I'm spitting flames or not.

Hi Snapper,
About your Revolution system, I dont know why you get no bangs, I've got a comparable spec to an some extent (same exhaust, Bailey vta DV, ITG filter tho, and UK MY97), I run Optimax but no octane booster, and I get pops, bangs and the occasional flame on demand, with exactly the same method Gridlock Mikey described, just needs to be nice and hot.
I've got some video footage of said action and flames (oh and some donuts- Great for getting it nice and hot) but I don't know of anywhere that can host it. Does anyone know of any video uploading sites?
Cube.

I now have another line of thought,
I saw a comment on here about air filters that are needing cleaning or replacing. My car is just due for a service, infact it will be the first time since owning, that the air filter will have been changed, so perhaps on Monday evening I might have more success.
I do appreciate all your comments and advice, many thanks.
