Do you want an FAQ Sticky in Drivetrain?
#1
Hi JF, was just thinking... maybe it's a good moment to give us an update on what topics you think you have ample information, and what topics are not represented yet ?
I ask because I Wrexy just gave a few of the same links I already emailed you, and would want to avoid double/triple work.
Or would it be better to post the proposed links in here instead of via email ?
I'm going to dig into the spider web filled archives later today again, so maybe let us know what you are still missing/hoping to find ?
Theo
Edit: tips on speling perhaps

Open to your input on this so tell me your thoughts.
Do you guys want an FAQ thread that has all the basic subjects covered in one sticky thread? This would include things like the info John posted on the Dawes plus maybe the basics of some of the other most asked questions.
If i do this it will be a locked thread and you would need to mail me if anything aditional should be added.
I dont want to reduce the ability for people to ask freely on any subject but maybe it would help reduce the number of questions that seem to be being constantly re-asked about subjects like the Dawes Device which is taking up a lot of the threads right now.
Yes or No with a very simple reason for your view please, no novels.
I am not saying you will get what you want but i am genuinely interested in your opinion.
cheers
John

JF, personally I think it would be a great idea.
We have had some brilliant threads on quite a few topics in the past, and this would really make it easier for people to visit those first.
So yeah, sure !
Theo
PS: I remember a great dumpvalve & pfwiet pfwiet thread

Top idea John
To save you some work, for some of the points you could just have titles and links to the original thread so that people can find them straight away.

Personally, I think a separate How-To or Mods area on the BBS would be more useful, my concern about the sticky thread idea is that most of the first page of the forum will be taken up with 'stickers'.
Hot topics tend to stay on the first couple of pages anyway and I for one bookmark threads of potential long term interest.
Obviously a search function would be an added bonus.

So far its pretty much a yes. I want more input though. There are hundreds of people reading this forum, dont just read then bog off, tell me what you think.
I thank you.

A Sticky Thread is a good idea seeing as there is no FAQ, but I don't think it will stop all the questions IE Dawes setup, best D/P, Best DV etc....these will keep popping up as previous threads on the subject don't cover all the questions. We really need an FAQ but who would write it?

Yep definatly.
John instead of re-writing the stuff could you just post a set of links? eg..
DAWES
http:scoobynetetcetcetc1234
http:scoobynetetcetcetc1234
http:scoobynetetcetcetc1234
FMIC
http:scoobynetetcetcetc1234
http:scoobynetetcetcetc1234
BIG END FAILURE
http:scoobynetetcetcetc1234
etc.
What do you think of that?
Kos.

That was the idea Kosy.
What i dont want is the FAQ to be a stale, static entity of my ideas. The best way would be to gather together the best of whats been posted and then let that continue to be developed. The FAQ would basically be a top links page for the forum and may be added to over time.
After all my idea of what is the best way to go may not be everyone elses or even the best in reality. If we have the good quality threads that discuss why things are the way they are then thats going to educate at the same time as give pointers to newbies etc.
I think it's pretty overwhelming that this is wanted so i will go and speek with Mr De Banke about setting this up.
Thanks for the input. One thing that would be great if if you could gather some of what you think would be the most usefull threads and i will take a look and see which best meet the criteria. Without your help it's going to take me ages.
send me a mail with the URL's and i'll get it all organised after giving it some thought.
cheers
