Ok, I fitted a sccobysport backbox last night and although it sounded nice, it was no where near as loud as I thought it would be and was a bot disappointed.

However, today I have noticed its getting louder and louder the more I drive it. I also had the back seats down so I could hear it better, and I'm sure it got louder throughout the day.

Is this a placebo, or do they need opening up (but mines a used one))?

Also, I think the car redlines much quicker - again maybe placebo because I'm looking for it?

akshay67,

I've had mine about 3 months now & i think it IS a bit louder than when I first got it - but no where near as loud from inside as I thought!
BUT - from outside it IS much louder - u can hear it coming from quite a way away!

They definatly do get louder the warmer they are - so warm it up nicely and she will sing like a good'un !!

Bexlee, is your car a time machine (-how did you get that date?!)

New BB costs 270, check for sale section for bargains.

Just to add, it has gotten even louder now - to the point where I can put the rear seats back up! - it sounds awesome when accelerating.

Bexlee

Cost of a new Scoobysport bb is £260 + VAT - keep an eye on the 'For Sale' section - they do come up, but you have to be quick.

I've got a full SS system on my MY01 and it has got a lot louder (especially after doing the airfield day last week) - don't know why.

For best effect drive through a tunnel on full throttle with the windows down! You'll definetly be able to hear it then!!! Sounds absolutely awesome.

Akshay67 - don't know what MY you have but the new age Imprezas seem much better sound proofed than the old shape cars ... I've got a MY99 Turbo 4dr with SS BB and ITG panel filter and it is bloody loud (didn't have it from new so can't comment whether its getting louder). Having said that, if you want loud then go for the de-cat option - Chris L's old MY00 and Scoobychick's old man's scoobs are LOUD with the full de-cat.

Chris L's new MY01 has definitely got louder as I can hear him now and sets my dog off barking like an idiot

Don't know why but the exhaust note seems louder and fruitier with Optimax in rather than SUL ... IMHO

Cheers
Phil

Some exhaust backboxes do get louder over time. If they are filled with fibreglass material, this slowly deteriorates over time. The exhaust gas temps don't agree with fibre glass. Other exhausts use stainless steel wool, which is unaffected by time and temperature.

Can't say which exhausts models use which, though worth asking the suppliers. I've got S/S wool and am a happy chappy.

Cheers

I've noticed that mine is louder some days than others, and I think that it is louder when we have a high pressure weather system over the country.

Funny you should say that because the last time I visited Cromarty and German Bight I found the same thing....the decibels seemed tied to the millibars inextricably...and that's just with a bog standard exhaust....

Forgot to say, if you want to see how loud the SS BB is then its best witnessed from the outside ( or with the windows down ) ... it is 'quite' discreet from inside the car, but I know from when my other half boots it down the road or she is coming into the village I can hear her and it sounds terrific. Get someone to do a drive-by - sounds awesome!!

I'm interested in acquiring one of these for my MY01. How much did your SS BBs cost all inc?

(Editted to apologise for thread hijack)
