Hi,
In short, filter and exhaust. Either a replacement panel such as ITG or K&N or an induction kit, K&N, Blitz, HKS etc. (but watch it with these if your car is a MY99-00 one - maybe better with panel filter- up to you)
Exhaust is in 3 parts: backbox, centre and downpipe. Downpipe and centre have cats in which restrict flow, so a full decat will see good gains. Loads of exhausts out there. Just shop around. However, with full decat, car will fail an MOT, so you'd have to put the cat back on every 12 months which will cost you about £100 to put cat back on and take it off again afterwards.
OR you can just replace the centre cat and backbox if you don't want the faf, but you won't get as much power.
After that you can tweak the boost and other stuff, but to be honest I'd look at brakes and handling first. A well setup car will waste a car with more bhp in anything but a straight line.
There are big improvements to be made to the Impreza suspension and brakes.
There are loads of methods of upping your performance. If you want I can mail you my spec. 1996 UK turbo 320bhp 290lbsft.
It'll at least give you one possible idea of where to start.
Hope this helps
Rich

Personaly
De cat it, thats the down pipe, mid section & get a better back box, people like scooby sport, scooby mania, Power enginerring, TDI, Magnex, HKS, Blitz etc all do the exhausts.
Then maybe an induction kit
Then brakes
then lighten flywheel
Then front mount intercooler
Then something like a link ECU
bigger turbo
bigger injectors
list is endless but start by getting it to breath & then stop
cheers
