Default Can anyone help me?

I joined the forum today to see if anyone here could help me answer some questions I am struggling with....
When your car is going to cost more to keep fixing than it worth do you keep fixing it?
Do I risk becoming too attached to my car because of all the money it has cost me to keep it on the road, or do I break it up and sell it to other people in my situation and buy a new car since my days of screaming around knock hill are over and I don't really like going fast anymore?
I have an 02 sti, which needs a new rear diff.
Cost new plus fitting £3481.00 + VAT!!!!!!
I am still waiting for second hand part quotes, however I will need a new gear box soon as mine is sticking in 1st and 2nd when it’s cold and if I catch third gear wrong it shakes its tick tacks at me!!
If anyone has advice I am all ears, if anyone is modifying and has the parts I need for sale that would be amazing my trans type is ty856wn2ca.
Thank you for reading my post, Shelly

your best bet is to keep a look out on the for sale section on here and see if anyone has anything second hand, if nothing comes up try asking a different garage as that sounds a bit steep to me.

API - warrantied rear diff fitted < £1000
Strip box and swap synchros < £1000

dunx

P.S. The "best" bits are the engine, gearbox and diff. IMHO, two out of three of yours are in need of work, so of "scrap" value only unless fixed...

Dunx, who told you a rear diff from APi is £1000 ??

Depending upon which diff they run from £200 - £450 + VAT as an average. R180 3.9 is the exception, cos it is the JDM sti ratio and rather hard to find these days. We had to pay £750.00 + VAT to buy one in last year. We had been selling them innocently at £450.00 until I need one for one of my own cars. That hurt.

In and out labour for a rear diff is 2 hours £96.00 + VAT

Oil is less than 30 quid. Job done.

Synchros on a box depend again on which box. It is possible to run up a bill of a grand + VAT on a 6 speeder quite easily. But in the case of a TY754 5 speeder a fully recon exchange unit is only £750.00 + VAT with 6 months guarantee.

If a bespoke repair is necessary foe na early RA it could well mount up if gears are damaged as cwell as synchros.

But most of our box rebuilds are cheaper than an exchange unit.

Happy days - I don't know about happydude happydays is more appropriate.

Better than money in the bank that.

Just be sure that it is the one with the temp sensor in the diff plug. They look identical to a type R one, except the type R [ 4.4:1 ] doesn't have the temp sensor.

That should be a JDM 3.9 with Suretrack fitted.
