Swap the fifth gear for a UK spec item, best of both IMHO.

but christ the jump from 4th to 5th would be mental

i fitted a UK box as that has 3.9 diff ratio ( rear is converted to the same) and has the taller gears which works for me as i love motorway driving

Dont do it, its wrecks the drive..........

The feeling is horrible from 4th to 5th and a massive jump and drop in revs.

I've just bought in a Type R [ RA ] V limited with the longer 5th gear. it is in fact the .825 5th and the drop in revs is about 1500.

Actual ratios should be
3.083
2.062
1.545
1.151
0.825

P1 by comparison

3.166
1.882
1.296
0.972
0.738

which is higher geared all through except for 1st

Both run 4.4 rear diff, but of course the JDM cars have dccd.

It does give a sensation of dropping ' off the cam ' but cannot be beaten for motorway cruise and MPG.

In my opinion it is worth changing if you do any serious amount of long trips.

Cost done here about £500.00 + VAT drive in-drive out assuming no gearbox damage once inside looking. No need for the box to come out of the car.

Done in a day to be safe, possibly can be done on a Saturday morning with a good start at 8.30 and finish by 1 pm.

The max speed will depend upon whether your engine will rev out on the higher gears, so you should be in the mid 150's but your car is your car if you see what I mean.

Dangerous to run at that speed on a top mount, or anything much above 110 mph. The air intake temps will rise dramatically and then there'll be a loud rattling sound.................

A version 8 scoop will help, fmic is the answer.

As 172 says. The only tricky part is that there are 3 locating tags on the reverse gear synchro hub that need to line up with their corresponding places on the rear assembly.

Get them out of line and problems start to appear.

Commonsense wins the day.

When I bought my RA, I was told it had a 5th from a WRX.

The jump from 4th to 5th is

My old man said it's like having a car missing a gear

Is good for motorway driving though, and does wonders for the MPG even if only a little helps

The jump from 4th to 5th in the early 6 speed boxes is the same. You have to really rev out 4th, or fall out of the power when you go into 5th. Shame really!
