was having a mess around with my bailey BOV the other weekend and tried putting a jubilee clip around it & over the vents just leaving a small gap, i ended up with a quieter venting sound, but got the wastegate chatter i've been after for a while. theoretically, i'm running without a BOV except for a small amount escaping, is this going to do any damage? anyone?

I fitted a bailey at the weekend with the hope of chattering, but dont seem to get any.
My brothers gtir chatters like a **** & thats got a bailey.
If its safe to do like you say, I may be tempted.

I love that chattering noise its lovely. If anyone can tell me where I can get one that does that I'll go and get one tomorrow.
Have had the Whoooosh type before and they get annoying after a while.

i'm running 14 psi & a HKS powerflow with cold air plumbing from where the front fog light used to be, seems to be loudest first thing in the morning, probably when the engine is cold.
tried to take it apart to tension the spring, but couldn't find a way in

I don't think it works for re-circ BOVs.
When you buy a Forge vent to atmos I think you get a choice of which strength spring you get?
I could be wrong though, as I usually am.

Caution chap's, the dump valve (BOV) needs to be free flowing (re-circ & vent to atmos.) otherwise it will not do it's job of protecting the turbo properly ('back' pressure when the throttle is closed). OK if you have a 'ball bearing' turbo or one with an uprated thrust bearing on the compressor side, however!

I just telephoned Forge. Really helpful chap on the phone is sending me a RED spring and 5 shims in the post today!!!
Now that is what I call bl00dy good service with no charge :wow:
In principle, I don't see how wastegate chatter cannot be induced by either re-circ or the dump to atmos BOV's???
I believe that the stiffer springs are usually required when running more boost. The standard spring can be forced open before the throttle is released.
I am unsure as to why the stiffer spring and shims induce wastegate chatter but I believe that a stiffer spring and shims will dump less charged air to recirc/air, so therefore hold pressure in the aircharge system and so induce wastegate chatter.
Mine already does it a little bit when stepping off the throttle when accelerating, i.e. when some old granny pulls out in front of me!!!
I could be wrong in this theory.....???
Jacko.
p.s. I have a VF23, so let the chattering commence (within reason!)

Sorry for being a bit thick but what is the chatter noise? I've had two turbo cars with BOVs but they only ever whoosh. Current Blitz BOV makes my car sound like a bus!

Forge will give you chatter with an induction kit and a red spring. Just changed mine to a blue to get more whoosh less chatter.
Maybe the best compromise is a blue spring and some spacers to get a half way house?

all makes sense, just wish i could adjust the bailey, i was told you can adjust them by turning the rod inside while stopping the piston from turning. easier said than done
but my current mod will do me for now, kind of like having an adjustable BOV without the cost

scott, yes the scoobs do it, as long as you have an induction kit to hear it like you say, mines loud as hell with no dump valve and pipercross induction
chatter is not the wastegate though, its compressor surge...
