Question

Hi all,

greetings from Singapore. I have a MY01 WRX, 220bhp and have been meaning to change my exhaust system to let the fella breath better.

Have explored various solutions but... i hear that the engine check light will come on and resetting it won't help 'cause it'll keep coming on.

Is there any kind soul out there who can offer me a solution to this problem?

btw: have a blitz boost controller and am also wondering if that'll help control the spikes after taking out the cats...

Thanks a million in advance!

Wink

ScoobySport (www.scoobysport.co.uk) sell a unit that overcomes this problem on the MY01+

But be careful if you change the turbo up pipe. There are a number of cases on here where replacement up pipe flanges do not meet properly and the lower gaskets blow.

As PCB said, Scoobysport do a "black box" which sorts the problem. It's down to the rear Lambda sensor telling the ECU there is something wrong with the Cats (in this case, because they have been removed ). The black box modifies the signal so that the ECU thinks the Cats are still there.

This has no bearing on fueling as this is done off the front Wide Band Lambda sensor so has no risks associated with it.

You can always choose to brake the cat inside the up-pipe maintaining the original but empty pipe.

the inside of the cat was about the only thing i didn't break trying to change the twit (spelling??)
i haven't had any problems with boost spikes but not sure about other owners (full scoobysport system incl. up-pipe)

lol @ Simon

LoFi, I haven't done it yet. I spoke with my rally car preparator down in Italy and he suggested to do that plus installing a DP with sport decat. Besides he has a small electrical device that fouls the maf sensor in order to prevent overboosting.
He already did on a couple of WRX 01 with excellent results.

Could expand on that or get some more details?

Thanks guys.

I have been to the local HKS agent and they do not have a similar "black box" fit although they are curious about this device.

i think the boost controller will prevent the spiking but until i change the exhaust system, that remains to be seen...

SingaporeScooby: I have one from Scoobysport that I am selling second hand.

It does not seem to be necessary on my MY01 STi, (although it is on the MY01 WRX) so it is surplus to requirements. (and new, unused)

If you are interested, please email at:
