Hissing noise - is it the power steering pump.

I mean't to post about this for a while, but as both Subaru's I've had have done it I'm not that worried about it.
Just that occasionally I can hear a hissing/scraping noise whilst driving, eminating from the engine comapartment.
I'd thought it may be something to do with the power steering, but would like someone to confirm it, if possible.
If it is the steering, would it be worth doing a fluid change (MY94 67,000 miles).
