Went to the PE dyno meet this morning (Sat 4 May) to try out my my recently fitted AE801 ECU (£150 from breaker). I previously had my car dynoed last Aug/Sept time. The weather then wasn't particularly hot however this morning it was quite chilly so I guess that probably helped a good bit.
The car has Scoobysport d/p, magnex centre and a PPP backbox. It also has an ITG (for what it's worth). The only changes other than the ECU between the two runs is that the on the second run the car was (and has been for a while) being run on Optimax. It also now has 17" wheels (not that that makes any appreciable difference).
AE802 (Aug 01) - 229BHP at 6460RPM. 223LBS/FT Torque
AE801 (May 02) - 257BHP at 6800RPM. 236LBS/FT Torque.
The 801 is the red trace on the dyno plot below:

On the rollers this morning.

Possibly the shiniest car in the UK....must get out more...
For a cheap performance boost for us poor MY00/AE802 owners either get yourself a AE801 or, of course, an EcuTek1 remapped ECU![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
AE801 coming up for sale soon.... my sights are set on a 'Tek2 to get the Tq figures up

Thanks to CHRIS_D for sorting out the meet today

Simon
I'll be interested in the 801!
At this rate I could buy a complete car from you in about 6 months!!
Send me an E-mail with your mobile on, I've lost the previous one.
Thanks
Steve

Simon,
If you can try an ae800. I borrowed an ae801 and then brought a ae800. Seems better with the ae800 and better mpg.
What do you use to clean the car ?
Dave.

I'd be interested to try an 800 just for the comparison at least. I had enough trouble finding the 801; not sure I'd be able to find an 800!
The car's cleaned with the good old Wax Wizard stuff. Need to get hold of him though as supplies running perilously low!!

Well if you are ever up this way, you are more than welcome to swap over and try it for few miles to see if it is worth chasing one out. I really felt a difference. I didn't know if the original one I tried was a 800 or 801, thought it was and when I checked found I was right, that is how much difference I felt.
Do you ever get the swirls marks in bright sunshine with the polish ?
Dave.

Simon, good comparison, which ecu was run first and did you drive to PE with it in the car. Reason being that the second ecu fitted would effectively have been reset whilst the first wouldn't, if the 801 was first then its an even better result.

Interesting point. The runs were actually done a few months apart so there is the factor of different ambient conditions. Both ECUs had been in the car for a good while before the runs were done. The 802 had been in since new when the first run was done, the 801 was fitted about 3 weeks ago so I guess it would have had time to "adjust".
The difference in performance is just so obvious when driving though

Not knocking the difference I run an AE801 now (previously PPP ECU before that an AE802) - just a rolling road observation - running a PPP ECU AND a Dawes at 17.4 PSI with similar full decat and ITG gave exactly the same 257 BHP at Star!

Yeah, I appreciate that there are differences between rolling roads - the Powerstation/PE differences being the most noticable.
I wouldn't swear to the 257bhp figure if my life depended on it however my point was that the comparison was done on the same rolling road hence one can directly compare the differences between the two ECUs. 28Bhp and 13ft/lbs tq is still quite nice for a £150 ECU from a breaker.![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I know a Dawes would do similar things for £30 but I'm not to keen on bleed valve trickery

I've been looking at a lot of boost plots today (for some strange reason
) and I've noticed that the Dawes plots are by far the smoothest and most well controlled. This AE801 works very well with a Dawes, really you might like it

I'm still not convinced by the overall safety of the Dawes. Yes it gives good power results and yes it's cheap but I just don't like the idea of fooling the ECU quite so much and losing the safety factors that the ECU provides.
I think my next performance mod will be either a Tek2 (or preferably a 3 that's mapped to the car) or ideally a Link from BR (I've been saying that for the last year though....
). I'm just a bit too much of a coward to trust my engine to a bleed valve bodge

Undoubtedly the Tek 2 is better but I am biased. I wouldn't say it was a bleed valve bodge though, and I suspect you might not either if you saw some cars with it in and the datalogs demonstrating its safety.
