Which ECU Upgrade?

Hi
I was hoping you could help me out here.
I want an ECU upgrade for my STi UK, I am considering the following:
Motec
Link
Gems
Can any of you suggest which one would be the best to go for. I love lots of features and like the idea of the Motec being able to log data.
I also need the car to work to its full potential at a safe level whilst retaining drivability.
Many thanks in advance for your help.

You won't get a declaritive answer as there are so many variables to take into account which differ from car to car - owner to owner. We sell GEMS ECU options (amongst others), give us a call (0115) 970 8555, and we'll try and help.
Make sure you speak to other 'suppliers' as well though, then make your mind up based on the option/system that suits you best.

Having run both a Link and Motec ECU's. I would say go for the Link. I have NOT tried the Gems, so cannot comment.
You CAN data log with the Link, you just need to switch the engine off and replace the tuning module with serial link.
What year STi do you have?

If he has a UK STi it must be 2002,therefore there is at present no Link,no GEMS,no EcuTek commercially available, and I would'nt put a Unichip on a £25k car(IMHO).The only option right now is the Motec M8oo pro. This will cost £1700 + vat(unmapped). Both GEMS and Link are being completed as we speak it will be interesting to see which one gets there first.
I think Link/GEMS/Motec are all defined as stand alone units, but I could be wrong.By the way if you intend to try and keep the warranty you need something you can easily remove if needs to go to the dealer. The Unichip will be the most difficult as it is soldered in and needs an external boost controller.Hope that helps,Deep.

Hi !
regarding unichip...
The fact is that unichip is probably one of the safest ECU-mods because of the fact that all the ECU standard functions like knock compensation and idle-control is still controlled by the original ECU and when it comes to map-resolution it is as good as the Link...
But it is always the skill experiense of the mapper that gives you a safe map!

But with the Link/Motec/GEMS, you do not have to butcher your wiring loom to get them to fit. With the unichip you do. Why have 2 computers trying to run your engine at the same time when 1 will do it much better??

Hi again
Well, that was uptil now when www.Turboxs.com has got their product: 'WRX Unichip with Plug-&-Play Harness' which lets you plug the unichip in just like the link or an autronic ECU !
Anyway the ECU is not the big thing it is the skill of the mapper that does it.

I have a STI UK too, thanks for your advice. What makes you say the Link is better than the Motec? What about Unichip, am I right saying that the Motec is the only stand alone engine management system?
