Garrett Turbochargers?
#1
I'm able to get a cheap one of the above - brand new, friend of a friend type thing.
I have some quite big plans for my car (a P1) and will need a turbo that will flow quite a lot more air than the standard one (vf22?) which is good at maximum for about 350bhp I believe?.
I'm looking at the GT30 good for 450 500 bhp - part of a newer range than the older T series - it's one of these ball bearing jobbies - with a seperate wastegate.
I've looked at HKS stuff which is reworked Garrett apparently, and as usual it is rediculously priced and still won't flow as much air.
Just wondering - has anyone had any experience of fitting one of these? - size wise I expect it to be a lot bigger and some fabrication to be in order around the inlet manifold - again any experience of this would be good too!
Thanks in advance
Chris

Bored and surfing the forum's.
Equally I got a frient of a friend who can get Garett bits, spoke to someone at Grahame Goode and asked about this, I was told it wasn't poss. It's IHI only, have you been to www.brdevelopments.com or the grahamegoode site, loads of various hybrid options or just bigger ones?
Enjoy!

Who says it isn't possible?
You will be looking at some bespoke fabrication for a new uppipe / downpipe, water, lubrication, and wastegate plumbing but the upside is a HUGE range of housings, wastegates, turbines, and compressor wheels available for realistic money (i.e. 1/2 - 2/3 of what HKS would be looking for.
It really isn't anything that a self respecting race / rally prep. shop couldn't handle.
Cheers,
Alex

A T2 is much too small - I used to have one on my Renault 5 GT Turbo...
You won't want to go down the Garrett route if you're just looking for a cheap turbo.... there is no guarentee that the turbo you've been offered is going to work at all well with your car, and you will have already payed out plenty to find out.
You may as well go for an IHI, which is a straight swap, or one of the many hybrid variants if you are after higher performance.
There is a lot more scope (wider part selection) for creating a high performance set-up with a Garrett turbo, but don't expect it to be cheap.I suggest you have a look through the many turbo swap threads on i-club to get the lowdown.
Cheers,
Alex

Firstly, I think the P1 has a VF28 which I also think is not good for 350bhp, less than that.
There are people who have fitted various Garrett turbos to their Scoobs.....
If you have no luck here, go to 22B.COM as I'm sure you find some helpful and knowledgable advice on this subject there.....

Hi mate you mate want to check out this site
http://www.mrtrally.com.au/performance/default.htm
Then click on technical tips and then turbo data.
It lists all IHI turbos and some Garretts as well.
