Default 6 Speed issue or Clutch? MY02 STI UK

Chap's, Firstly I know it's hard to diagnose without hearing things.

I've had a quiet noise (Wurring) from the gearbox for a while now which goes when the clutch pedal is down and also I noticed a few times the gear change can feel notchy. Subaru changed the gearbox oil a few weeks ago and it hasn't helped.

Yesterday after a 30 mile trip I got home to hear a rattle from under the car. PANIC!!!

I checked under the bonnet and all was quiet. The rattle goes when clutch pedal is down. It seems to be louder if the engine at idle is under load (air con on or revved slightly) but goes when revved above 1000rpm.

The rattle is not noticeable when the car is cold. Also the car drives fine with no slip.

Could this be the original noise/problem getting worse?

Release Bearing?

Crap Oil?

I guess Oil change first, then clutch, then

My guess is release bearing.

WOW!

Cheers for the quick reply mate. I should of added the noises go when clutch pedal is pressed about half travel (biting point I guess).

Mine does the exact same thing. Engine is out in a few weeks time so I will let you know what I find but I have also been told release bearing. fingers crossed.

It seems my clutch and release bearing were ok but I'm changing them now anyway. The problem was the flywheel spigot bearing. Very noisey and felt like it was full of grit. I'd recommend getting a new one as they are only £20 from Subaru.

They should really put them in the clutch kit. I'll know next time :-)
